Subject: Body lift Questions IP: Logged
Message: I am contemplating a body lift for my 2000 CC 4x4. I have been looking at the several Daks here that have body lifts, and the pictures are impressive. For you guys with a 2000 truck, how difficult was the install? How long does it take for 2 people to do the work? What is the worst part? What hapens with the 4x4 lever? Is there a particular brand of lift that is best? Where is a good place to buy?
This would be my first lift, so I am apprehensive. Thanks for the help in advance!!

Message: I put on my lift on my 4x4 with a friend for the first time. The hardest thing was raising the bumpers and making them look right. This is because you have to drill new holes for the rear bumper and some new holes for the front. Your bumper loses it's towing capability, but in myopinion, the bumpers didnt have that much to begin with. It took us about the entire day 8 am to 10 pm. It was a blast though... Fun as hell. Another thing... The shifter for the 4x4 will have to be extended. I did and they wanted me to take out the linkage and cut it and weld a piece in. I figured that was way too much work when i could just screw off the knob on the shifter and couple a little piece of threaded rod to the threads on the shifter and screw the knob back onto the new rod piece. Looks like nothing ever changed haha Little innovation there. You'll have fun puttin it on besided the bumpers... Make sure you have all the tools too... Expecially a jack that is high enough to reach the body and lift it enough to fit the blocks in and a good drill and a lot of energy. I bought mine form JC Whitney.. www.jcwhitney.com its a good lift enjoy

Message: Tony, the 2000's kit comes with all new brackets for the bumpers. No drilling at all. Also the 4x4 shifter is diff than the 97-99. Much simpler to do. Didnt even need the extension on Vipers truck and I realized that I didnt need it on mine after I already had a short piece welded in.

Message: On my 2002, the front bumper only has two brackets attached (usually they have side brackets too). Putting both bumpers back on were a piece of cake!
However, if you have a 5spd manual you have to re-bend the shifting rod (or whatever its called) that goes from the tranny to the stick. Pain in my A$$!!!! If anyone has to do this, here is a hint, just make it straight with enough bend to clear the dash in 1st and 3rd. The instructions say 1/2 inch - its bull. Just be glad most you guys have autos!! :-)

Message: So you guys are saying my 4x4 lever might not need to be modified? I'm concerned, because the only things I really can't do myself are torching and welding. No equipment and no skills.

Message: When we did Vipers, I just loosened the adjustment screw and moved it all the way to the end of the rod and it works perfectly. I only welded in 1 inch of the 3 inch extension on mine and noticed then that I probably didnt need to have done it, thats why I tried Vipers with out it and I was right. Try it on yours. If you do end up needing it then you can still drive in 2wd until you can get someone to weld in the extension for you.
