Its time for a gear swap,i took out my old gears and they calc out at 3.21 wow,now whats the opinion on 3.90 or should i go 4.10 i got 32 inch tires and drive this thing about three times a year,All freeway and offroad,i would like to hear the opinions from those who have changed gears to one of those two sizes on which one i should use,i dont want to go screaming down the road at 3000 rpms in 5th gear if i go too high but on the other hand i carry alot of weight and pull a trailer as well so i need some go go.....(1994,5 speed 5.2L v-8)I am curious to know how those with 4.10 like em and what kind of rpms they run at say 70-80 mph.i have about two weeks to make my choice on gears and a locker then its a done deal,so im counting on my folks here to steer me one way or the other, thanks guys.

Hey bucket, I'm not possitive but i've heard many bad things about lockers in the front axle. They aren't very strong axles and usually around tough situations they grenade. But don't hold me on this. The back axle should be fine with those size tires.
With 4.10's I think you'd be spinning in between 3-4000 rpms. I've got 3.55s in mine and have an auto w/ overdrive and spin between 2-2200 rpms ar 70 to 80. So maybe with 4.10s you may only be up to 3000... I don't know alot about gears but thats what I think.

Thanks for the input Paul...Thats one of the things i want to avoid is rpms over 2500 at say 70 mph but i need a confirmation from someone with a 5 speed and 32 or 33 inch tires,as for the locker i was only referring to the rear axle,i dont even think they make one for the front but the rear is sufficient for me.

I agree about the front locker, I think I recall now that the reason theirs no locker for that axle is that, it would grenade... I think your 5th gear ratio should probably be close to my Overdrive but I could be wrong.

Here's a site that may be helpful it should help us figure out the ratio's but you obviously know more than me so here ya go.

Go to Randy's Ring and Pinion website,( not intending to promote, just has good info) then go to the calculator section. There you can put in your tire size and ratios and get your rpms at a given speed. That should give you a good idea of what yor are looking for. Either ratio would probably be fine since you don't drive it much, and do have the 318.
