Subject: Torsion Bars 2003 Quad Cab, 4x4, 5.9 l
IP: Logged

Message:
I have found a 2003 Quad Cab SLT, 4x4, 5.9 l, automatic, that I am thinking of buying. I have read a bunch of posts here about cranking on torsion bars to level out or lift the front end of a 4x4 Dakota. No mention is made of what motors are in these trucks.

I am assuming that a 5.9 l is heavier than a 4.7 l and that some adjustment must be made at the factory to compensate for this. On a 4x4 Dakota with a 5.9 l, can a person crank on torsion bars to level the front end? Does anyone have a 4x4 Quad Cab with a 5.9 l, that has done this?

This truck currently has stock 240/60 16 on it. I would like to level out the front end and put on 265/75 16 All-Terrain T/As. Before making an offer on this truck, I would like to know if cranking torsion bars on this truck is an option.

Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

I have an 89 4X4 Dakota, nothing like yours, but the whole torsion bar thing is a good idea. its easy, free, and you get bigger tires. just make sure you dont go to much and ruin your front shocks like me. ask aroung, someone will have a truck like yours that did that torsion bar thing.

good luck

You won't have any trouble getting the height you are looking for from the torsion bars. There are a few guys with the 360 that have done it. The torsion bars are different spring rates depending on what engine you have. I doubt the 4.7 and the 5.9 have the same torsion bars because the 4.7 is probably lighter than the old 3.9 V6 which definitely had the softer bars. Just remember the alignment afterwards.
