I wish I had a 4x4 Super Bee,
Mine would look like walts then. I have a local shop that I am quite familiar with and they do good work. I am sure they could get that 4in Trailmaster on for me. Anyways, this dak is really the first vehical that I have owbed that I really cared about. So I do put some money into her. Not near as mush as some of these guys though. Plus I only paid $3000. for her from my grandfather. So I figure I have some to make up.
I think the best mods here are the K&N, no cat, and exhaust. It really helped my speed and it sounds good too. What are you planning on next w/ your dak?
Nice talking with you. C-Ya later.

dual exhaust woul dbe nice, and welsome to the blub, i paid 3300 for mine from a dealer no less, they wanted 5k for it, bit then told him about the bade axhuast parts it had(had no money for a cool exhaust at the time, no spare tire, and a few other things like almsot nothing left of the passengers rocker panel (replaced it and it looks good) and it was jsut plain dirty, so I got it cheap, 1 car was later and it already was worht 500 more cuz it looked so nice compared to what it was, i have also dont the spray in bed liner so that doesnt look at bad, a sun visor, new muffler, new converter, (if i had known at the time the whole bad i would have somehow gotten enough $$$ to put in a better exhaust, new plugs, plug wires, dist cap and rotor, had the front brake rotors turned so it braked smooth, replaced tranny fluid, replacing the diffy fluids (waiting for gaskets) put of a class 3 receiver hitch, stripped and painted roll bars an cleaned up the overhead lights, put on a cool grill guard with lights, took out busted stock fog lights and put in yellow ones, lights onm grill guard, new radiator, and a fe other things i prolly am forgetting, oh stick on bed rail protectors, air shocks, and thats all i can remember now

so i have done some stuff to it, mostly cosmetic and nesiscary repairs,

here is a pic

Super Bee, nice ride man. I like the color scheme with the all black, roll bar, grill guard etc. Nice work! So how does she run now? Seems to be that you have done alot of work to get her purring along.
My biggest problem lately has been brakes and AC. I have spent like $1500. on a totally new brake system (new rotors, calipers, drums, shoes, pads, lines, etc.) the whole works. And then last week with a $500 AC bill. I have no $ right now to play with. Just think, with 2 grand what I could have done. Awell, maybe next time. Good Luck to you. And Super Bee, nice work.

Hey Super Bee, how did you post that picture of your truck using HTML??? (I thought you couldnt post pics unless you were a registered user???)

I got my truck out of the shop yesterday with some new front brake lines. The olds ones punctured, leaving me stranded without any brake fluid! They replaced the OEM lines with some stainless steel lines, but only part of it. The rest is new OEM quality brake lines. Joe E you should be able to install front pads and rotors easily. I could have directed you to some really good prices if you paid somebody else to install them!

yeah dude, whats your ride? Maybe a 1988 Dak? Since you dont want to hear any tech. questions now, I wont ask you about your truck. ?????
The only problem with having so many subdivided forums is that you get people to stop checking out others questions cuz they know off the bat that it has nothing to do with thier truck.
If we isolated ourselves to a Gen I forum, Gen II and III probably wouldnt bother to check out our stuff. Maybe I am over board on this, and dont get me wrong, I think it would be cool to have a Gen I forum, I just dont want to cut our own throats.

About the brakes, man I needed alot more than new shoes and pads. I had the entire system replaced. I was cruisen in the city and hit my brakes hard to avoid a tourist stopped in the road, and my stopping power was terrible. So I took it to a shop, and they were in disbelief that I drove it so much. The drums were past repair, the calipers were rusted and I wanted them replaced to be new and paint to match my truck. So I put out the cash and had them done. It cost alot but I dont have to think about them again.
Tiger, one place I dont feel good about messen with is brakes. I want to be able to stop no questions asked. If I did them, not even gonna happen. Not that guttsy. Did you have a hard time with your lines? My shop said they had a heck of a time finding the right fittings for my lines.

oh yeah JOE .E, i get what your sayin you would think that all the gen 3 people that are so informative wouldnt talk to us but we got a lot of real smart people like Walt, plus all of us can put our two cents in and it'll be just fine if its just us first gen'ers

well most of the all black was like that when i got it, witht he exception of some mmissing paint which ios coming back to haunt me and am looking into some quality paint, if i had my way id take it to a good shop in town and ghave all the paint redone and the minor rust fixed, and i have also messed up a front axle shaft, got it replaced for 120 bucks at another good private owned shop witha great mechanic,
the html is
-img src="http://www.theplacehostingyourpic.com"-

with< and > in the place of the -

and im still working on the truck, need some rear lift, possibly shackle, but im most likely going to fabricate my own lift blocks (or have the machinists at work do it) and get some high grade bolts at the local John Deere tractor dealership

and then come thi bigger tires and i wish i could aford some new AR rims, maybe some overtime is in order
oh well
and moderately priced rim suggestions? would apretiate some pics too

KEEP THIS POST ALIVE!!!!
its our only way of doing things for now, and the Gen2 people have almsot the same truck as us so its jsut a matter of the slightly different engines and some minor alterations, but a gen1-2 board would be nice, and i agree, then gen3 peeps are so knowledgable and informitive

and yes Walt all us gen1 people do worhip your dak with small alters and sacrifices of an ocasional rodent lol j/k

you do have more knowledge than the rest of us on them though, mosly cuz you have done so much to it and know the ins and outs of your truck better than the rest of us

PEACE

and she runs smooth now, OMG when i first got her, my grandpa was liek whats this peice of crap, it was very dirty, uncared for and needed engine work cuz it was so rough and doggy, my parents were wondering about my sanity, but i knew that i could get a newer one for the same price as mione and all the stuff i have stuck into her butwheres the fun in buying something that does not need my TLC and total affection, and in doing all this stuff to it i have become very possesive and protective of it, me or my parents ar ethe only to drive it, when i off road its with a cool head and nothoing that will hurt it badly,

my grandpa in now jealous and he wants a dakota, and my parents think its a nice little old dakota, but i would not trade it for a gen 2 v-6 (an 8 maybe) but i dont want it crashed or stolen, or anything bad to come to her so i can keep her long enough to get out of college and buy a newer truck, keep that wone stock and make mine look like Walts

but thats a ways off and it will require money and time and a second vehicle, cuz a truck on blocks in a garage or driveway doesnt do anyone any good (does it knobbyman if he happens to read this)

any suggestiosn for my baby? and see if you guys can get pics of yours up, ive seen tigers but im curious about brent and Joe

Well my brother recently bought a '98 QuadCab. I havent seen it yet as he is in Idaho. I'm sure after seeing my Black Beauty he was getting a little jealous of my truck and tired of owning imports! ...he he he he...

Super Bee if you are in the market for some American Racing wheels, and if you have 31" tires, I would recommend 15x8 wheels. Find the style you like, then buy them from Summitracing. They will get any set you want, and actually match any price you see listed in a magazine. Thats what I did. I found the ones I wanted in a 4x4 magazine, then called them. Their prices were higher. But I told them about the magazine, and they did some checking to make sure I was telling the truth, and they beat the price by $5 and gave me free shipping. My rims turned out to be $80 each!!! Every place else was 90 and another 25 each for shipping!

thats pretty good tiger. I went to a shop in michigan where I bought the truck from my grandpa. Each rim of mine was $160.00. They are the poliched American Racing Nitros. Excellent 1 piece wheels. But I kick myself everyday over buying the 15x7s. But when I did it, I was new to trucks and didnt want to "stress out the front end" with larger tires. OK, now 5in of lift later, and countless hours of work and cash, My truck is totally changed. But man I wish I got 15x8-10s.
Super Bee, Id love to send you a few picts of my ride. If I can find your email here, Il send them to ya, if not post it here and Ill do it then.

About rims, personally I really like the MT Classic IIs. That is what I intended to get but when I was in the wheel market, they were yet to be released. I needed some then so I went AR.
Depends what you want Super Bee. If you just want a cheep wheel, that is common on trucks, go with rock crawlers. They are reasonable. Or go with American Rac AR-73s. For 15x8, $45 bucks chrome. Not bad.Or AR-767s are balck, $36.00

I want some Center Line Hell Cats. 15x8.5 chrome. $158.00. Man I wish I new what I was doing the first time around! Bee, also try ebay. Just get 5 on 4.5 rims, 15 dia. Good Luck

about rims, i wanted to get some good yet cheap chrome rock crawlers on my truck but im afraid that if i get a different backspacing than what i have(not quite sure on the number but with the rim sticking out of the well more) then the tires would rub cause they are already real close to the bottom rear rocker in the front. id probably just end up slicing off a little bit of the plasit cause its only plastic.
keep it goin
