Subject: Who has a 99 Dak with lift? What tires? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 Dak 5.2L 4x4 and I've been following the threads and all, but I haven't seen any particular posts on whether 35s will actually fit? I do very little off roading so this leaves mostly city driving as the main factor in the equation.
If you have that tire size or bigger. What type of suspension and or body lift combination do you have and from what company? Also, do you think stock rims (15x8) can run the 35s or would I need to change those. I'm going to have 4 wheel parts do this for me but I wanted to get some information before I run down their and they try to sell me something I don't need or that is crap. Links to websites with pics would also be cool.
thanks everyone,
~Bill

Message: do a search for PIRATE 4x4. I dont know the exact web address, but I will try to find out. If you look under the dodge section of readers rides, you will see a few daks running 35's. In my opinion, you should fit 35's with the 5.5in lift if you get the backapacing right and never go wheelin'.

Message: Man I'd really like to talk to the guy who owns that PURPLE 99 Dak in the photo Album #13 under "Viewer Rides". Anyone know who owns that? It's go to be a combination of a 6.5 or 5.5 inch with a lift kit of some sort. I wonder if he has any problems with alignments...lol

Message: Like I said in another post, you can probably run 35's on the street but there is no way you could go wheelin, not even mild wheelin. Now if you put a 3 inch body on top of the 5.5 you should be able to.

Message: I believe the name of the guy that used to own it was Scott, he's on here every once in a while under that name. I believe it was a 5.5 Tuff Country with a 3" body lift, but I really don't remember, so if anybody else knows, please correct me.

Message: Yep, thats my "old" Dakota it has a 5.5 Tuff Country susp. and 3 in Trailmaster body lift and the torsion bars were also cranked up about an inch or so.I was running 33x14.50 mickey thompsons on 10 in wide welds with just the susp. lift and they rubbed everywhere in the front very bad even with trimming. Once I did the body lift my local tire store agreed to get one of a few different sized tires for me to see which one would fit and to everyones surprise the 38`s actually fit! I traded a friend of mine the 10in. wide rims for a set of 12 in. wide Billet Specialties wheels with a different offset , they looked better and rubbed a little bit less. Yes I had problems with the alignment from day one after installing the susp. lift . It seems as though the upper a arm bolts couldn`t hold the weight/offset of the bigger tires.I eventually solved that problem with some "creative engineering". The truck rode very well and I drove it everywhere. If you plan on going off-road 38`s will NOT work unless you dont care what shape your tires turn your fenders into.

Message: Thanks Scott for replying scott. That combination did look awesome though you have to admit despite all the problems. I really want to get that look on my truck and I will most likely have 4wheel parts do it for me since there right here in the city of Austin. Do you have some type of list you created before that said all the modifications you had to do in order to resolve any issues? If you could email me it that would be great. billrosenfelt@aol.com Just your in your overall opinion would you go through the hassel again? I do very little off roading so I'm concerned with that issue. Thanks,

Message: I checked a set of 35x14.50 Swamper SSRs , they looked like they would probably work ,even off-road but they still might rub the frame in the very front of the truck at full turn though. You would have to figure out the correct off set rim(?).I was looking for the biggest tire I could run on the street ,or I would have chose the 35s for practicality.I never checked a set of 12.50s but they would have to fit ,again with the right off set wheels.
