Subject: issues with wheels hitting calipers IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know if 15" wheels will fit on a 04 4x4 quad cab that originally came with sixteens? I tried to fit some that had a 4 and 3/4" back spacing but they wouldn't work, they hit my calipers. I don't want spacers and don't want to grind the calipers down. I will get sixteens but I am unsure of what backspacing to get on the wheel, I know I have 5.5" inch on my factory 16s but if I got to a 5" backspacing will it clear the caliper even more?

Message: I think '03 was when they went to bigger break pads so that's probably why you cant get the 15's to work. I know you can't fit stock 15's on but I dont know about aftermarket.

Message: 15" will not fit, you have to use 16" or bigger.

Message: Nope. I've tried.
Larger brake rotor and caliper position won't allow 15" rims to fit.

Message: Can you tell me if the 16" will fit the earlier Dakotas? Mine is a 1994, would like to put the later model wheels on it. Someone said the later wheels could be modified, but he did not know what was required. Caliper mods, or wheel spacers. Now that I see there are 15" and 16" that look about the same, I'm wondering what size I saw on the vehicle. Info about what fits and what doesn't would be appriciated. Mine is a 1994 V8 4x4. Thanks
