Subject: Finally Gonna Do it? IP: Logged
Message: Well today I decided to order the 3 inch body lift for my 2000 4x4 CC. My questions are as follows.
What odd tools might I need?
How many jackstands do you think I need?
Any hints or tips?
Did you use the lift lips?
About how long?
Whar problems did you run itno?
Thats all I can think about right now. I know that is a lot of questions but I am only a amateur mechanic, and I am at college. Tools I can borrow along with workspace. Thank you so much for the help.

Message: First of all make sure they give you the 2000 lift and not the 97-99 it wont work(had this happen to me)As far as the jack stands go you dont really need them,I didnt use them at all its just up to you.Make sure you undo your spare tire crank before lifting or it will have a nice u shape to it.You will need a tourq wrench and metric sockets, and to make it easy a second pair of hand. The lift is very simple to install just take your time, watch and listen as you lift the body so you dont kink or bind anything. It will take you almost all day to install there are alot of little things you have to do that take a little time. The instructions will have you jumping from the front of the truck to the rear and then back to the front just follow them to the letter.I used the lift lips on mine and it gave the truck a nice finished look it also protects the engine from getting dirty and beat up from the tires slinging anything. Also before I forget if you have the 4.7 you may want to go to NAPA and buy a flexible hose to replace the bottom radiator hose, the instructions say to cut the original and put in this spacer that comes with the kit but I didnt like the way it fit so I got the Flex hose(Hawk did the same)Anyway take you time and drink plenty of Gatorade!!!!!
BTW Hawk I beat you to it!!!!!!!!

Message: If you go to my webpage Http://dakota2.4mg.com go to "How To's" and scroll down to the "Body Lift" i have some photos of the process throughout the install. Its for a 98, but SOME of the parts are the same. It can at least give you and idea what to look for.

Message: Basically what Viper and Dakota said are correct. You can do it without the jackstands but for me it was a bit easier having all the tires off and the truck on the jackstands. It will take you about a day to do but allow yourself 2 that way you wont have to hurry and if something goes wrong then you have time to do something about it. Just do exactly what the directions say.

Message: Viper, what is the difference between the 97-99 Perf. Acc. lift vs. the one you used? I saw a kit in JC Whitney for the 99-97 dakota really cheap but I have a 2000 QC. Would this kit work at all?

Message: Mike, I helped Viper with his. The 97-99 kit has a different steering extension, brake line brackets, bumper brackets, short 2 mounts, and a few other things. It wont work.

Message: You also may want to be prepared to do a little welding if you have a manual transfer case like mine ('98 4x4 CC). I had to weld a 3" piece of stock metal(included) after I cut in half, with a hack saw, my transfer lever. And I had to bend the stick shift lever about an inch forward.
Everything else was pretty up front.
The kit was very through and self explanitory otherwise. But like I said, if yours is like mine, have a welder handy!

Message: Airborne, the shifter lever on the 2000's is a little diff than the 98-99's. Dont have to bend anything. I welded in about an inch of the supplied extension then noticed it looked like I might not have needed it. Then when we did Vipers truck, my suspicions were confirmed, didnt need to use the extension. Just adjusted the linkage all the way to the end and it works fine. Not saying it will be that way on all 2000's but I do know you dont have to do the bending part. Just FYI. :-)
