For you guys with 3.55 gears and 33's or larger. Did you lose your OD on the highway or is the ratio change minor.

2002 QC AWD with 4.7 AT Trans with SuperChip and K&N FIPK.

Thanks

I have 3.55 gears and 31" tires.
At 60MPH with OD on, my engine is only at 1600RPMs, and even mild acceleration causes a downshift.
So...
I drive with OD off until about 60-65 MPH.
Otherwise the gas mileage sucks and the transmission hunts for gears a lot.

33x 12.5 x15 3.55's. 70mph @ 3200rpms, 100mph @ 4200rpms with O/D off, O/D on 70 mph @ 2000rpms, 100mph @ 3000rpms. Better with O/D off, more fun

I have 3.55's and 35's. I was at like 1500 RPM at 60 now i'm only at like 1350-1400 RPM. Still no problem unless going up a steep hill then it will kick out of overdrive. I also have the 5.2 though...

30s to 32s and 5th gear is gone. 5.2 v-8 and a big loss of power you could feel going down the freeway, now i need to go to 390 gearing, used to go down the freeway in 5th gear at about 1900 rpm, now 5th is unusable unless going downhill and 4th is running high.

I had 3:55 with 32 and it was ok. 1800 rpm at 70 kinda sluggish. I went to 33s and that totally sucked. Finally I got 4:10s for my 33 BFG A/T and now at 70, I'm at 2200. A little high of RPMs but great for towing my boat and intown use. Long distance trip not so great. BFG tires run a little small so I'll jump up one size tire next year on my purchase to even things out.

I had 33's and 3:55's, had to take the top of steep grades or trying to pass someone in 3rd. I just installed 4:56's, and I have my 5th gear back at last! 5th will maintain highway speeds on slight grades, and now in 4th I can accelerate up the steepest grades.

Well i am still in the air about what gears i want,i dont want to run too high on the rpms,if i am doing a ten hour road trip i dont want to be rolling at 85 mph at 2800 rpm,i would prefer to be around 2200 max.On the other hand once i buy the gears i am stuck with what i pick, maybe i will do a post on it and see what comes up.

Just an update on RPM'S, my Superchips recalibrated my speedo for tire height this summer. After gear swap, 60=2000, 65=2100-2200, 75= still not quite 2500, 85=2800, all in 5th gear. So, unless something else needs to be calibrated on my tranny, these are definitely #'s I can live with. Hell, my first truck was a 79 chevy 2wd with a straight six and my tranny was a "three on the tree". Who knows what kind of RPM that thing was running at highway speeds.

Seems like alot of differant RPMs even with some having the same set up. I wonder what others get...I guess the transmission gearing comes into play. Here is my current setup 2002 QC AWD Autotrans, 3.55 gear, 4.7, K&N, SuperChips and now FlowMaster 40 dual outlet.

Results: 60mph OD-1800 OD off 2400.

285/75/16 Mud Rovers on order.
