Subject: What lift to get? IP: Logged
Message: New with the Dakotas. I know how to lift the back. But I don't know how to lift the front indepedent suspension. It's a 4X4, if it makes a difference.

Message: It does because the 2wd have a coil front suspension and the 4x4 have Torsion Bars. How much lift are you looking for? You can go a couple inches by messing with your T-Bars. Wouldn't want to go further than a couple inches though. By using them to lift it could change your alignment and will make your ride a little stiffer. Also puts stress on other parts of your suspension.

Message: I'm not looking for much of a lift. Just mainly looking at raising the front to get it up like the rear.
Did you raise yours this way? if you did, did you need an alignment?

Message: Yea that's what I did. Doesn't cost anything but a little time. I probably should get an alignment but I didn't. I've only got a couple thousand miles on my tires right now so I don't know how they're wearing. I'm having no problems though.

Message: lifted mine last week using the torsion bars. Have to be careful though EMTSquad51, make sure you lift both sides the same, or you'll have a crooked front end. i think I got about 1 inch out of it, but I didn't raise it much, I didn't want to wear anything out. Don't have the $ to replace anything right now.

Message: Is this safe to do a lift this way? I'm only wanting to go about 2" frame and maybe 2" body lift, but want it to be safe as my family rides in this truck often.

Message: I would think that if you didn't take it off road alot, then you'd be ok. If you take it off road though, I would take it much above 1.5 inches...just my opinion.

| Which tires will fit IP: Logged
Message: If I raise my stock dakota by cranking the torsion bar in the front and putting blocks under the leaf springs in the back how big of tires do you think I should get? 32's?

Message: Well, Miles, in my opinion, I think if you raise the back like you were talking about, it's not going to level with the front. It will probably be lower in the front b/c those torsion will only give you 2" of lift at the MOST.
I would probably get 32s, I'm pretty sure they would fit on the front. But if you want to try it, get 33s.

Message: Do you guys know if 32s fit on our dakota's stock? I have a 97 with 31s on it right now but it seems like there is alot of space left even with the 31s..but id hate to get 32s and have a tone of rubbing.
Just curious if anyone knows.
Thanks,
Mac

Message: Miles, 33s will not fit without a 3" body lift. I'm not sure if 32s will fit with only cranked torsion bars. I tried Toyo AT 32s on mine without cranking the torsion bars and they rubbed bad.

Message: I would go with Max 32's with only the T-bars cranked. I had 31's on mine before I had the lift and I could get the tires to rub if I was really twisted up under full lock.

Message: I've had my 32's on for a while now and I haven't had any rubbing at all. Even with out my BL I didn't rub but I hadn't gone offroad either but at full turn no rubbing (1/4" space left). Another thing is, is that some tires may say they're the same size but really one can be bigger than the other. Lookin to get 33's in the distant future, maybe after suspension lift and maybe not depends on what happens.

Message: Well thats true i have heard that some 32 are not only the same size as some 33 but actually can be bigger than a 33 depending on tread pattern,my problem was the 3.5 backspacing on the rims and the mud tread on the superswamper ssr radials was insane,i got so much rubbing it was undrivable with those tires until i got the suspension lift done, now its perfect.
