Message: I've thought about leveling off my 2004 4X4 by adjusting the torsion bars but was strongly advised not to. How "unhealthy" is adjusting the torsion bars? Seems like just about everyone on this site cranks them up 1-2".

Message: 2 inches is acceptable and safe, it is important not to exceed 2 inches though. Be sure to park your truck on a level surface and measure from the top of your wheel to the center of the fender. Crank the t-bars a few turns equally and let the truck down. Drive the truck a few miles as the they will settle a little. Repeat this process until you get 2 inches of lift.
The only concern you should have is if someone has already cranked the bars. If you are the original owner, you have nothing worry about.
The ride will be a little stiffer, but it feels more stable.
Keep in mind you will be putting a little more strain on the front end components ie; ball joints, boots etc. Which may cause them to wear a little faster. But you'll find lots of cases of people here with cranked t-bars that have over 100K miles without any problems.
Mine have been cranked for 10K miles with no problems what so ever.
