Subject: Blocks vs. add-a-leaf IP: Logged
Message: I'm trying to prep for a 2" rear lift. Can anyone give me their experiece with a 2" block vs. an add-a-leaf. My local shop told me the add-a-leaf won't give me the lift i'm looking for, and recommended the blocks. I keep reading on here that the blocks can cause leaf spring wrap. I'm planning on cranking my torsion bars for front end lift. Even if the add-a-leaf only gives me 1.5", I can crank the TB's to match the rear end height. I'm only doing this for something to do. "If it ain't broke, tweak it" I don't plan on doing much if any towing. Maybe the every so often utility trailer trip to the dump or to get a load of mulch. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Just starting mods, have to do theme secretly so the wife doesnt find out. She thinks performance mods are a waste. Wait till I get the HO cams. I'll have to make up one hell of a story about those!

Message: If you use an "add a leaf" then it is going to add a little bit of hieght to your truck, but is also gonna stiffen up your rear suspension a lot. The problem with add a leafs are that it is hard to tell how much height you are actually going to get. Now for blocks... The only time you have to worry about axle wrap is when you add a huge block to your rear axle and couple it with a very strong motor. You do not have to worry about axle wrap with your set-up with 2" of lift. The thing you will have to get is longer "u-bolts" for your axle. The stock ones will not fit. DO NOT get the cheap ones from AUTOZONE or such. I have heard horror stories of them braking. If you have a 4x4 store nearby, they should be able to get them. They are usually not very cheap but a much better option. Go for the blocks, and make sure to check to make sure your shocks are long enough. I am using a stock size with 1.5" of blocks in the rear with no problems. You must also be careful not to torque the front torsion bars too much, if you do then you will not be able to get it aligned correctly.

Message: Thanks for the info. I'll be going with the blocks, and 1.5" of torsion bar lift in the front.

Message: i got the add a leafs, and it gave me about 1.5-1.75 inches
they will eventualy start sagging though, then again so do the torsions up front
i love the add a leafs, they stiffened up the suspension and the stiffer suspension helps off road, well, i like the way it handles, it doesnt seem to bounce around on bumps
they dont help much for hauling though
