Subject: 3" Lift Tires/Wheels - Help
IP: Logged

Message:
Guys,

I've been doing a lot of reading here...great stuff! I'm looking for some more opinions on a tire/wheel set up. I've got a 99 4x4 318cc w/3.55's and 50% complete with the 3" perf Acc body lift. I wanted to go with 33x12.5 MTR's on 15x10 AE589's but sounds like I'm in for some major rubbing if I do. I want the wide tire look, would you advise sticking with the 33" tire and going with the 15x8 rim or dropping the tire to 32x11.5 and keeping the 15x10's? Also don't know much about trimming wheel wells...better off taking it into a shop or do you have suggestions/pics to help?

Thanks!,
Judson

Stick with the 33's on 15x8's. 11.50's on 10's are ok but the rim doesnt have a lot of protection. Get too close to a curb or something and you run a good risk of dinging the lip of the rim. As for trimming, the most I had to do was a little of the plastic on the bottom back corners of the front bumper. Very simple.

Hawkeye..quick response..thanks! I think I saw similar advice from you on a few other posts.

Thoughts from others? Anyone running 10" rims?

Is it worth registering for this site? Seems to me you can still get all the info, just can't post your pics.

I'm running 15x10 with the 33x12.50 mtr's and a 3 inch body lift and I have had to do some plastic trimming. The tire still rub but only on an offroad situation or if I hit a bump hard with the wheels turned sharp and then they hit on the inside against the firewall. I guess I will go to the 15x8's but I really do like the looks of my truck right now, other than it's about 3 inches too close to the ground!

Quadman...do you have pics? Can you send me some to judsoncole@yahoo.com. Also can you describe where you cut? Are you saying you are going to switch back to 15x8 rims?

You ride quads? I've got a 99 Banshee tricked out...gotta love the toys!

Also...blacks out or whites out? I was thinking blackes out for my ride.

You guys on this site are awesome...never would have attempted this lift w/o all the advice!

I have pics but my scanner is on the blink right now and I have been too much of a tightwad to buy another. I cut the lower valance under the bemper about 2 inches and then I cut the plastic inner fender up about 6 inches front and back. I also cranked the torsion bars all the way to max and then backed them off 3/4 of a turn. This setup works great and looks awsome if you don't do any wheelin, I have a jeep for that and don't really wanna trash a 26k dollar truck. I have the white letters out, I just like this look I guess. If I decide to do any hunting on my truck this season I will buy 15x8 wheels. I know the 15x8 wheels will work, I just like the wide look better. I'll try and get some pics up.

Had a Durango with a 3" body lift and ran 33x11.50 on eagle alloy #058's 15X10's. No problems. Except that about 5wks after putting them on, got to crazy 4whln and rolled it. Sold the tires but still have some almost new ( no scratches at all ) 15X10 ea's for sale. Take $260.00 plus shipping for them if anybody interested. Love the rims, but ttooo wide for my 2wd dakota....

I build tires for goodyear but usually don't buy them. Although they have had some good mud tires in the past. I used to have a set of mt's and these compared to them in my opinion are alot better. There is a bit of noise but nothing like claws(quadman's vote for worst dot tire ever!)or boggers. They wear well, very close to the wear of a bfg mud terrain but they get alot more grip. I have run alot of tires and as far as my .02 worth these are the best mild mudders I have driven on. I say mild cause to me a real aggressive mudder is something like a bogger or swamper. I also think the mtr's are very sharp looking. I am very interested in the xterrains too, they just might be my next set. I just hope they aren't like the claws.

I just got a 1998 Dodge Dakota Sport 2.5L with manual transmission and I'm looking to fix it up. I'd like any suggestions on sites and things I could do to it. Since its a rear wheel drive and only a 4 cylinder, things are hard to come by for it. Anything would be appreciated (performance, lift kits, dress up exterior and interior as well as under the hood). Thanks
