Subject: Perf. Acc.'s or Trailmaster??? IP: Logged
Message: ok fellas, I've been searchin all over the place on here for like a week and all i can find are a bunch shady answers. So heres my ? and pls dont flame me for not searchin the archives cuz believe me i did... I have a 95 4x4 318 auto and recently put a set of bridgestone dueller a/t (31x10.50R15's) on her. she looks great but i do have some slight rubbing when i slam on the brakes even after cranking my torsion bars. So, I want to get a body lift and perf. acc. has a 2", and trailmaster has a 3". I would much rather have the 3" but I would like to know the difference in difficulty in installing the two and any modifications that I will have to make for either of them. Do both kits come with EVERYTHING that I need??? How will each hold up in the long run??? Any feedback from people that have done either on of these on their gen II would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to order one or the other and find out that I have to do alot of modifying or have any surprises if ya know what I mean.
Sorry for the novel, and thanx for the info in advance :-)
Anthony

Message: Well I have a Gen I, and I can say that the 4x4 shop that did the Perf Acc 2" lift for me told me they never do body lifts more than 2". Anything more than that is just "stretching it too much". A body lift is an unnatural thing to do to your truck, although mine has fanned out just fine. I know with the Perf Acc lift there arent any surprises or extra things involved in the labor. So I guess everything comes with the lift. I would recommend not going above 2", but I'm sure lots of other people will have different experiences than mine.

Message: Thanx for the reply Tiger, I have heard the same thing about lifting higher than 2" but i have alot of buddies with 3" body lifts that have had no problems whatsoever. I appreciate the info though, I think I'm gonna go with the performance accessories kit but I'm not sure yet. Anyone else got any input for me???
Thanx in advance

Message: i have a 93, with 3.9l. i recently took out the 2inch and put in the 3inch body lift, for tire clearence. i went up to 32 11.50x15. yea i do have some rubbing but only on the drivers side. im hopeing the alignment will take care of that. i think trail master dosent make the 3inch for the v8. i dont know why. when you install the lift your going to need to trim the lower radiator fan shroud, weld a rod to the shifter linkage (for adjustment), i havent put the knob on the 4wd shifter yet. this is the 3rd lift ive put in a dakota and never got the right threaded rod for the shifter. the 3inch comes with an extension for the steering. take the screws out of the gas tank filler neck, or just make sure the pipe slides out of the tank when your lifting the bed up. un bolt the bracket for the brake lines on hte frame below the master cylinder. when you lift the body, just loosen all the mounts on one side, enough for them to allow you to raise the other side up. the front bumper, take off the air dam and raise the bumper and clamp with vise grips. with the 3inch i was able to drill new mounting holes. i didnt raise it with the 2inch. on my buddies v8 dakota with a 2inch i had to use a torch and cut new mounting holes in the bracket and frame, im not sure if the bumper brackest were diff from 93 to 95 or if that 1 inch made that much of a difference, only because there wasnt any flat spots to drill. his is a 95. the rear bumper worked out good with mine. its a drop style bumper. with it raised up i was able to install a class 3 hitch and have no gaps. on my 89 and my buddies 95 with the stock bumpers and hitch we left the bumpers at stock hieght. hes going to get diamond plate to fill in the gap. i think i got everything. the directions are alright that comes with the kit. ive only used trail master so i dont know how the others are. i can tell you the blocks hold up well in a roll over. thats how i lost my 89. the wife took it to work, (cause he rcar broke down the night before), on a rainy day and lost control. she was lucky, scratched her finger, truck not so lucky. i just recently bought a rolled 90 dakota w/3inch, rolled hard, bent the frame. a couple of blocks have scratches in them. the kid was driving to fast on a dirt road and lost control. wasnt due to the lift just driver error. hope this helps if you have any questions, ill watch this post.

Message: You'll will probably feel a little lose but not much. I made some changes to my truck, fuel injectors from a 360, k&n air filter, bored .20 over, mopar performance computer, performance cat, 3inch super turbo muffler, shift kit in the trans. I recently lost the trans, {not due to tires} I had a cooler line break and dumped most of the fluid out. its now getting a 5spd along with a v8 throttle body. The perf computer probably made the biggest difference. I dont think I have a 1000 miles on the tires. You need to understand that when you go to a bigger tire, yea some performance will be lost, its just something you gotta try and see. I believe your truck is throttle body injected? My 89 I put a computer from a full size van in it. At the time that was all I could find for extra performance. that had 31 10.50x15s on it and had plenty of power. Hope this helps.

Message: I also put v8 2000lb torsion bars, and add aleaf in it for extra clearence. I did have the tires on with my snowplow, boy did they rub then. Next year i'll put my 31's back on for plowing.
