I read in 4wheel mag that when they tested the 05 Dak 4x4 the transfer case exploded and they showed a pic of it.that kinda put me off from then on,as far as looks go....too generic looking for me looks like a nissan,but thats just me,most people that see my truck probably wouldnt be caught dead in it.Different strokes for different blokes

It wasn't the transfer case, it was the front diff. Every Dakota made has had a weak front diff. Push them too hard and the aluminum housing will split open.

8banger 4wd locks the transfer case not the differentials.

I wouldn't advise doing 60 in 4lo either. Wasn't built for that.

Yeah yer right it was the front diff but on the other hand i dont think the test drive they did pushed the truck very hard at all i thought it was a pretty lax test.my first thought after reading the article was that dodge got caught cutting corners and put out a cheap truck,its not that often a brand new truck sustains that much damage on an easy test drive,dont get me wrong i dont care if its good or not,im just surprised it cracked.and mines 11 yrs old and been thru hell and back.
