Message: I don't mean to ruffle any feathers, but while us 4x4 guys may be morons, were not the ones lifting a two wheel drive truck! I can see that you gotta work with what you got, but if youre gonna pay all this money for tires and lifts, why didn't you just pony up the extra cash for a 4x4. I don't care what anyone says, a stock dakota 4x4 will go farther offroad than even a lifted and meaty-tired 4x2. My body lifted and 33" tired dakota pulled out a bronco on 44's that was in 2wd. I pulled him out of a mudpit that my dakota makes through flawlessly. Again, no disrespect, but don't be calling us 4x4 guys morons. Choose your words wisely.

Message: $200 - 3" Body Lift
$150 - 2" budget boost
Then I'll be sitting higher than a stock 4x4 dakota. How does 350 dollars equal the same cost as "just buying a 4x4 in the first place"?
I've got a Cherokee 4x4 to trash out in the woods if I want. I like driving a truck that sits high and looks agressive.
I'm not going to argue that a 4x4 will be better off-road than a 2wd because you're right.
My point is that none of you know the reason a person is lifting their 4x2. If you don't want to help a person with a 2wd who is asking a question that's fine, but keep that BS to yourselves.

Message: All I'm saying is why? Why lift a 4x2? "I like a truck that sits high and looks aggressive." Sorry bud, when I see a lifted dodge rolling down the road, and I don't see that 4x4 emblem on the back, I lose all respect. Granted it may look good, but it doesn't have what it takes to do what a lifted truck should do. And why waste money on bigger tires? They throw off your speedo, eat up gas, and cause premature wear on important and EXPENSIVE parts. Just because it looks cool? If I had swampers or even a light mud tire on a street queen, you best believe those suckers would be coming OFF. Why do the extra damage to your truck? Why make it look like something that it isn't? Granted this was a thread intended for 4x2 guys but when I see you guys wrecking on us 4x4 dakotas, you guys just seem plain simple. There is NO PURPOSE to lifting a 4x2 truck, and if you do and offroad it, then great! Youre using it for what its BUILT for. But You will never see me pulling out a lifted 4x2. If someone is so "smart" as to wheel a 4x32 then they are smart enough to get themselves out. Basically put, don't rank on us 4x4 guys or look down upon us because we have better equipped vehicles.

Message: What is the difference between a 4x2 lifted 6 inches and a 4x4 lifted 6 inches rolling on 18-20 inch bling-bling wheels and street tires. I see fullsize 4x4 street queens all day long, getting to be as bad as all the ricers. I said this on another thread, people get to spend their money the way they want. I went suspension lift because I don't like body lifts, and some guy on another thread called me a poser because of my "fake" duals. Street queen 4x4, lifted 4x2, or a 4 foot wing on a lime green honda, I get to have my opinion, but you know the rest of that saying.

But i can take out my stock 04 4x2 to the dry lake bed after rain and never get stuck all a mater of driver skill, and throattle to brake ratio along with not missing a shift.

Message: We lift our 2wd's cuz we want to 4wheel. Off-roading with a stock 2wd is not a good idea so that's why we lift them. I used to own a 2wd 2000 dak with 8" lift and bfg muds. I never had problems 4wheeling with 4x4's cuz I had a locker in the rear. Just watch what you say about 2wd trucks because they CAN do just about anything. Remember, it 90% driver..........
Now that I own a tricked out wrangler, I do wish sometimes that I had the truck cuz this jeep goes anywhere in 4x4 without much challenge. Nothing feels better than getting a 2wd truck past a pit that 4x4's have trouble in.
This is my first time back in this forum since a couple years and it sucks to see this ranting about how 2wd trucks suck. Come on, this is a dakota forum...not a "4x4 only" forum. Support each other please......

HA please, Like I said before "that is because 2WD Trucks are for girls and white boy wanna be's. Why would you lift a 2 Wheel drive truck?"
I agree with Purplemonster, it just does not make any sense, it not 4 wheelen with a girl 2 wheel drive. I have never seen a 2 wheel drive out do a 4X4 NEVER! We go to mud runs and there is always some jackass who puts his 2 wheel drive girl truck in the mud. It takes more time to get his jack ass out then its worth. If you ask me 2 wheel drive trucks should be lowered and driven by white boy wanna bee's or girls. I have owned a 1994 2 wheel drive S-10 with a 4.3 after driving that hunk of crap in a Michigan winter I decided to become a man and get a 4X4.

Message: Have you ever seen a 2wd locked dakota on mt/s's do a mud hole? Ever seen one climb rocks? I very much doubt it so how can you say 2wd trucks won't do any good? I've been wheeling my lifted dakota for 2 years with a locker in the rear and i kept up just fine with my club and i was the only 2wd truck there. The rest were 4wd jeeps, lifted and locked of course. Like i said, IT'S 90% driver cuz i did just fine and i knew the truck and it's capabilities. Now that i have a locked wrangler, i'm rarely in 4x4 cuz i can maneuver the jeep easily in 2wd just like i could with my 2wd dakota. I've done some amazing things with my truck such as balancing the truck on 2 wheels (one front, one rear) while being stuffed between two rocks and having only 1 wheel pushing me forward, AS long as you know the truck and what it can do, you can do just about anything with it. It's all mental....
" I have owned a 1994 2 wheel drive S-10 with a 4.3 after driving that hunk of crap in a Michigan winter I decided to become a man and get a 4X4. "
As for your 2wd s-10, what do you expect from a narrow, opened, tiny tire little truck? of course it's not gonna do any good in any conditions but remember, we are speaking of lifted dakotas with agressive tires and possibly locked rear.
4x2's can...you just rarely see the capble ones out there and assume they suck cuz you happen to see some dude try out his 2wd truck when it's not modded to handle what he's trying to do.
Purplemonster, i don't have anything against you or your truck but i disagree with what you said. Why do we lift a 4x2? Well there are plenty of reasons. Maybe we need the additional ground clearnace for work or playing in the mud? Maybe we like being in higher vehicles and not close to teh ground? Maybe we want bigger tires? Maybe we like agressive looking trucks? A 4x4 is nice at stock form so why do you lift that as well? it's the same reason, we want better performance. No one ever said that 4x2's aren't made for wheeling and must stay on the road.
"why make it look like something it isn't"?
What are we trying to look like? We are just lifting our trucks, not trying to be a 4x4. If we wanted to be one, we would've bought one in the first place.
"But You will never see me pulling out a lifted 4x2."
Well that kinda sucks cuz the dudes in my club didn't have any problems giving me the strap when i needed it and i didn't have any problems tugging them when in need. They are friends and accept and help others no matter what they are driving as long as it's not something like a stock s-10 2wd. Attempting a mudhole with a lifted dakota that has the proper type of tire is called "TRYING" and that's what 4x4's do as well. So if 4x4's get the strap, so do i. What if your best bud bought a lifted 2wd dakota with 35's then gets stuck in the same mudhole you got stuck in and offers to yank you out but you don't do the same in return? Hmm.....
I'm not here to rant on 4x4's cuz i have one now and i totally respect the technology advantages we have over 4x2's. I've experienced both and would take both off road cuz i know they can handle it if properlly modded to do so and the driver knows how to drive it. So what i'm saying is there's nothing wrong with lifting a 4x2 if the person wants to because they want to make what they have BETTER. We 4x4 guys want to make our trucks BETTER as well. We're in the same boat....so get along cuz it's the same truck!

Message: I agree...as to the never pulling out a 2wd, none of my friends wheel 2wd's. All the stuck 2wd's I come across are those jackass ones you were talking out, the stock 2wd s10s where the worst part of the truck is the jackhole driver. That is why I said that. Just personal preferences, I wouldn't lift a 2wd, I would make it a street queen. I'm old school in that fashion, I believe 4x4s should be dirty, muddy, and beaten hard. 4x2's should be nice rigs. Sorry to say but after a hard day of work I would rather drive home in a nice looking comfortable riding 4x2 than a lifted loud tire-vibration 4x2. Like I said I'm old school. I believe lift kits and tires are for 4x4's, and I wouldn't do that to a 4x2 if I knew it really wouldn't do all that well offroad unless I locked the rear end. Then that makes the ride that much worse. I'm not cracking on you guys at all I'm just saying if you guys are gonna go wheeling I would rather have a stock 4x4 than a lifted 2wd. The only guy I was cracking on was the guy who had the lifted and big tired 4x2 who never took it offroad. That I don't understand at all. He likes the look? Fine, that fine. I don't know if he knows but lifts and tires actually do wear parts out prematurely. Doing a lift and tires on a 2wd that never sees mud is like saying I smoke cigarettes because I look cool.
