Subject: 2"vs3" body lift
IP: Logged

Message:
I really want to lift my stock 2wd cc. Question is to go with 2" or 3". I want to lift it purely for looks. I do not off road it and do not have money right now for bigger tires. I also have a full over the cab ladder rack that I use for building decks. Is a 3" lift going to be too tall or am I going to wish I went that extra inch? I don't want to spend the time and money and wish I had went the other way. Sorry to be long winded any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

The way I look at it is...why go 2 when you can go 3? I have the 3" pa body lift, and I love it. Works great, looks great, and doesn't even show as much frame as some stock chevys. All I've got is the body lift and a set of REALLY worn 33" baja claws, and I always hear "who's big Dodge is that out front?" Makes me smile.

97cc, Just to let you know how to get cheap lift...with the 3" body lift ($200), add-a-leaf ($50), and cranked torsion bars (free or labor charge), you can get 4.5-5" of lift for around $300-350. Yeah its kinda rigged, but you don't have to fool with driveshafts, shocks, and most importantly you don't have to pay 12-1400 for a susp lift. I'm gonna run 35's this way. They'll rub pretty bad but it'll look cool. With 5" of lift, you'll clear 33's easily. Just do a search on cranking your torsion bars-some say it messes with your ability to get a straight alignment. Also check your lift laws-here in CT the legal limit is 4" over stock height (including tires).

Thanks for the input. I probably will go 3". I believe if your going to do something, might as well do it all the way! I figure there must be a difference though, it only is an inch but they make and sell them both. Again this is purely asthetic on a 2wd. Thanks again.

Isn't the 2 inch lift waaaaay cheaper? I was thinking of running that, 2 inch blocks in the rear and cranked torsion bars up front.

That is cheaper, but look at some of the posts about cranking torsion bars. A lot of people love it, but I'm still debating. A buddy of mine who is also a mechanic says it screws with your ability to get a proper alignment, and they will eventually settle out. Plus, I got a real nice compliment on my truck when it was parked outside the package store the other day. The guy couldn't believe I could fit 33's with only a body lift. He called my truck "big."

How deep can that pond possibly be?
