Message: hey guys i recently got purchased a 92 Dakota 2wd,longbed, with a 318v8. I would like to make it unique, but alas I can't find a lift kit, any after market mods, or anything else i would like to have. its like companies forgot these trucks are out there. If i type in 92 civic i can find 200 pages of rice rocket crap. its really starting to piss me off. any info would really be appreciated. even if you tell me i'm S.O.L it would help me out.

Message: Welcome to the Workin' Man's world of Dakotas!
To get you started:
Do some searching on this site. Use the phrase, gen II or look for anything 92' - 96'.
While we are a bit limited, there can be items found. (Trailmaster suspension kit, Performance Accessories body lift, nerf bars, Smitty built show bars, grill gaurds, a limited line of wheels, etc)
87'-91 are considered generation I's (gen I)
92'-96' are generation II's (gen II)
97'-04' are Gen III's
05-?? Gen IV
Some items will cross over (generations), but those are the years and how they are broke out.
Hope this helps get you started.

Message: Do a search on the site for posts by Joe E. He has experience with lifting older 2wd Dakotas. Trailmaster only makes a suspension kit for the 4x4 (and even now it’s special order only) but I think Fabtech and/or Rancho still have a 2wd suspension kit for them.
Also be aware you won’t find a V8 application listed for most body lift kits for those years. There were some clearance issues with the engine fan and the lower radiator hose with a body lift on a V8 trucks. Most owners just remove the stock fan and replace it with an electric unit. A few others got creative with plumbing fixtures but that seems like a lot of extra work.
Like Bill said, a lot of pieces are interchangeable, especially Gen I & II for in the eyes of Ma Mopar they were an “N” body. 97-04 were “AN” bodied. I don’t know what the designation is for the new ’05 bodies.
