Subject: Lift questions (and pics, too) IP: Logged
Message: I just installed the lift on my truck this weekend. I think it turned out pretty good! (so i'll include pics).
Can anyone answer a few questions I have concerning the body lift? Such as, does anyone w/a body lift notice the temperature running higher? It's not overheating or anything, but it runs about 20 degrees warmer; I imagine this is becuase the radiator is offset the fan now.
Also- has anyone replaced the 3.55 gears aftr a lift? I can't help but notice that this guy wants to downshift waaayy too quickly.
Just wondered what you guys thought..

Message: Very nice looking (though I woulda went black-out on the tires... would've matched your truck better)!
After I got my lift and new tires on, I noticed a huge difference in downshifting too, so I got a Superchips tuner. It cured my problem.... and you're in luck - they just recently added the 4.7 to their tuner though Hypertech is still only offering 'em for the 5.2 and 5.9 (well, only 5.9 for the '00).
I think I may be putting 4.10 gears on my '99 V6 3.9L here in a couple of months... I've spent way too much money recently so I need to take a much needed break from the 'spendage'.
Temps have upped a little but they are still in a good range for me. Not really much to worry about there, I don't think.
Again, nice lookin truck - makes me wish even more that mine was 4x4.

Message: Heafus-
Those rims are American eagle alloy 0589's... they are the same as the American racing 172 bajas and the procomp bajas in the fact that they all have a 3.5 inch backspace, vs. a 5.5 backspace for factory. it looks good, but i hate hearing dings while driving down the road - those tires pick up everything and throw it all over.
Rivalry-
Black out/White out, its a toss up to me... I have always liked old-school white out, but i can definetely respect either.
What all is involved with the tuner? I guess I'll look into that, but just like you said w/the gears - the recent spendage is significant. The wife is bound to start noticing! ha! Thanks for the info on temp and the tuner... I'm glad my truck is acting 'normal'.
Thanks for the compliments!

Message: I'll answer for you, dude... (from another of GJoyce's posts)
They are Eagle Alloy 0589's - and I'm assuming 15x8 w/ 6x4.5 bolt pattern so that means 3 1/4" backspacing. American Eagle (EA manufacturer) makes some very nice wheels for our daks, check 'em out here.

Message: The Superchips tuner itself is really quite simple. Easy to install and understand, and you'll know what it's talking about even without using the manual.
It fixes your speedometer, shift points (big one there), gas mileage (you have probably noticed your mpg go down the drain after the new tires.... I swear mine was running close to 5 mpg), etc. There's also choices to increase the rev limiter, raise speed limiter, and have your computer recognize the new tire size . More HP/torque, and even a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) reader to check for errors. You can use three different performance enhancing 'profiles'.
1. More power using 87 octane gas
2. Towing/hauling with 91-93 octane gas
3. Overall best performance with 91-93 octane gas
It's rather expensive (I paid $430 for mine) if you don't go the group buy/ebay route, but it's worth it in the long run. I'd expect your truck would get better results out of the tuner than mine did too, considering you're an 8 banger.
All in all it's definitely something to consider. I'd buy it again.

Message: Thanks for your help, Rivalry-
I've got my eye on that group buy for superchips, although comin' up w/the cash is hard right now. May not get any easier later, so I'm considering biting the 'proverbial' bullet. All those things you listed are things I want to work on - save removing the speed limiter. I'm scared to go that fast anymore. HA!!
Silva8 -
Thanks for the complement! Is it bad to park at the front of the gym so that you can stare at you own truck for the hour your on a elliptical? HA! These trucks look really good lifted, I think.
You bet I had tire rub. I have 8 full turns on the torsion bars, and I've cut out about 1" (on diagonal) from the front fender well. Its not visible, unless your looking for it. Even then, I have rub at full w/any flex... I had hoped there would be more clearance.
I will say that its not enough to make me regret the lift. How bad do you rub? Got pics?

Message: I'm starting a group buy for the Superchips programmer 3715 that Rivalry was talking about. Info can be found here: www.dodgedakotas.com/boards/group/798.html. The pricing details have not been finalized yet, but they will definitely be cheaper than the $310 that they are going for on ebay right now.
Help me spread the word!

Message: Hey Tracy, sounds like good timing to get me one of those, but I need to affirm it with the Executive director of finance... you know - the wife! ha!
Another question I forgot to ask that some of you may have a idea; How did you (or did you even bother) to relocate the spare tire wench rod? The instructions in the PA body lift were lacking in this area, and although I could fabricate a bracket for the rod, I kinda wonder what you guys did. I have a few brackets left over in the kit, and I'd kinda like to know where they go. In fact, I've got 2 3" blocks left over... odd.
Thanks,
Gary
