Subject: Cheap Lift or Trouble ?? IP: Logged
Message: Winters almost over and the brand new ice tires have to come off the truck.
Therefor I will be buying new tires and rims, but have very limited budget (just got married, wife has siezed all assets)
When buying new tires, obviously must get bigger more aggresive tires (am still a red blooded man despite recent shackling) soooo......
Need opinions:
1. Crank up torsion bars to max
2. Install 2" blocks in rear
3. New shocks
4. 32 x 10.5 or 33 x 11.5 w/rims
And thats it!
Very cheap, very easy but will it work?
Oh S**t the wife is coming........

Message: All of the above will work. The tire size is up to you though. I had 33x10.5's with the torsion crank and it was ok. Just istall a spring or zip tie on the bottom center of the inner fenderwells to pull them back about 1/2" to 3/4" instead of trimming and they wont rub theyre at all. Just be careful if you change your rims ,backspacing less than 5" will require a lift so you dont smack the fenders when turning.

Message: You’re assuming he’s driving a Gen III though. In another thread he’s asking about Rims for a 96 which wont fit 33’s without a lift.

Note: I very frequently get email from people asking about the lift kit in my ’88. Typically, I will NOT respond to the emails (about 95%) that ask questions I’ve already covered on my web pages (ie. Where did you get the kit?, Who makes it?, How much did it cost?, What modifications did you have to make to get it to fit your truck?. How hard was it to install? What problems did you encounter? etc, etc...)

Message: Hey fellas. In JCWhtiney they have add-a-leafs and coil-spring spacers for the dakota. My question is, will the spacers work for the 4x4.

Message: Dakx4, Yes, I definitely going. A bunch of us are camping out at Mt. Pocono Campgroud. If your interested, give them a call ASAP and reserve a spot. Make sure you tell them your with the Dodge Truck World group. Once we have enough people, we’ll get a group discount. Click here for the Mt Pocono Campground info thread I would reserve on anyways, you could always cancel later or someone else from the group may want to take it off your hands if you can't make it.
Email me if you want to meet up some time. My email is on my website. I don’t post the address in public forums to keep the spam bots partially at bay.
Bones, coil spacers won’t work on a Dakota 4x4 because they don’t have coil springs, they have torsion bars that are adjustable. Search these forums for “torsion bars” and you’ll ten million threads on the subject.
