All I want to know is if you still use leaf spring with radious arms (i don't think you do)or if coil springs are used in this setup.

Message: BCDakota, if I read your post right, the HP D44 you're talking about has been used by other guys to do their SAS. Search the threads. Some guys will say there's no better way to go. I think you'll be all set with that axle.
If you read around a bit, it seems like the easiest way to install that axle is to use all the radius arms, brackets, coils, etc. from the donor truck and bolt/weld them to your Dakota's chassis. If you have a complete axle lined-up it should be straight-forward...not neccesarily easy, but relatively simple.
I got a good deal on a set of axles from a 2001 1500 Ram, so I'm going to be swaping front and rear axles (even though I already have a 9.25" rear). I've got all the brackets and coils from the original truck, so fabrication will be less intense. The Rams have 4-link front suspension, but I'm going to be making radius arms for simplicity and reliability.
When you have radius arms, you usually use coils or coilovers. The arms locate the axle front to back while the coils support the weight of the truck. With leaf springs, the springs themselves take care of locating the axle and supporting the weight.
Good luck!
