The TrailMaster Suspension kit for a 91-96 Dakota 4x4 can be used on an earlier Dakota with some modification. However, I will add that if you plan on running on anything more than a little mud or sand, I would strongly consider going the straight axle route instead. The TrailMaster suspension kit just isn’t up to anything more than mild off-road use. Go to my personal webpage by clicking on the images below. Click on the link to my Dakota page and again on “Dakota tips and modifications” there you will find info about the suspension kit and a link to “Project 1HiDAK” which was a detailed account of the installation of the TrailMaster kit on my ’88.

Note: I very frequently get email from people asking about the lift kit in my
’88. Typically, I will NOT respond the emails (about 90%) that ask questions
I’ve already covered on my web pages (ie. Where did you get the kit?, Who
makes it?, How much did it cost?, What modifications did you have to make to get it to fit your truck?. How hard was it to install? What problems did you
encounter? etc, etc...)
