Subject: Variable ride height IP: Logged
Message: I have an 04 QC AWD that has factory suspension.
It like the extra height for driving around but
my grandmother has difficulty entering and
exiting the cab despite the bars with steps along
the side.
I am wondering if it would be possible to modify
the suspesion to allow it to be raised and
lowered similar to range rover suspension.
Please let me know if a kit exists.
Thanks

Message: Bruce,
You might want to look into an air bag type set up, one that is adjustable from the cab. I am pretty sure you do not want to go to hydraulics. It might be expensive though, air bags usually are. If you went with the air bags, you'd have to relax the torsion bars so it will sink as well as lower the rear end somehow. You might also want to look into a mechanical step for your grandmother. I have seen them. During normal driving, they fold away neatly under the truck, then when you open the door, they use electric motors to move to the out position. Probably cheaper and more effective than air bags, and you will probably be able to configure it to be a lot lower than you'd ever want your truck to go.

that such a thing existed.
Is it possible to put airbags on the front and
rear?
Unfortunately my car is too short and my truck is
too tall for transporting her.

Message: One thing you have to remember, anything is possible, for the right amount of cash. You could go to weaker springs in the back, and then add air bags to boost it to the height you want it. Or for the back you could convert to a 4 link type design and then go to straight air bags. But if you decide to go that way for the front, you'll have to have brackets fabricated for the air bags. what you are talking is a buttload of money. If I were you, i would look for those motorized running boards/steps.

Message: Ok new plan, I am going to build some wooden
steps and carry them in the bed. Then when the
grandmothers need to get in they can walk up
them!

Message: I have some firestone Air bags on the rear of my truck mainly as overload bags, I cant really lower the truck any, but they can make them to di if you want. You cannot but airbags on the front of 4x4 dakotas, or AWD daks bc of the torsion bar setup.
