Subject: lifting a dakota with IFS IP: Logged
Message: Do any of you know if there are lifts out there for Dakota's with independent front suspensions? I have a '99 Dakota with IFS, I was told I wouldn't be able to or it'd be very expensive?
I'm looking for about a 6inch lift. I've also read about a 3 inch suspension and 3 inch body lift? Just looking for something that's solid and is recommended for offroading.
Thanks!

Message: You can get a 6" but it is from trucking suspension. All I have heard about that lift is that it is more for looks, no very durable. Rancho makes a 3" that is very sturdy and costs in the neighborhood to $1300 to 1500, then maybe go with a 3 in body. if you plan on going offroading and beating on it, go with the rancho.

Message: The 3" rancho lift is a solid lift. I beat the hell out of my truck and haven't had any problems with it.

Message: Unfortunately, there is only 3 possible options on lifting your dakota,
1. the ranco 3 inch lift, very good quality lift, but still only provides 3 inches of lift.. not much if you ask me Rough country makes a 5.5 inch lift for dakotas.. but i WOULD NOT reccomend them... poorly made in my opinion and stay the hell away from trucking suspension.. unless you want to visit your truck in the junk yard after you install it!!!
2. a body lift, 2 or a 3 inch body lift the 3 inch will allow 33 inch tires with a little trimming
3. a solid axle swap, this is the most extreme and most expensive but it is well worth it, first you need the axles out of an old 1978/1979 ford f250 (stay away from the f150s and broncos) you need a dana 60 axle in the rear and at least a dana 44 in front, a high pinion dana 44/60 in front would be best (less drive shaft angle)and try to find a front axle with the steering still on it, otherwise you will have to get it rigged up, like i said, this is the most expensive/extreme, but it is well worth it, a solid front axle is 10 times stronger, you can beat it to the point where an IFS would fail and it will only smile, and once you get the solid axle in there lifting it is as easy at getting lift springs, (made by every single lift copmany), just my 2cents... hope this helps
