Subject: Step Bar To Fit on lifted IP: Logged
Message: Installed 3" body lift on Quad Cab 2001 and want to install step bar (black tube) to improve appearance/hide the frame. Is anyone has this set up and could tell me the "make, model #" and cost? Also if there is any picture of this on this site.
Greatly appreciated,
Moe

Message: Do a search for Maniks. I wrote up how to I modified the mounting brackets to fit my 2004 quad cab w/ 3" body lift. I found it. Here it is...
The front brackets were easy. I simply lined everything up and drilled new holes on the brackets 2 3/8" lower. That's as far as I could go and keep enough metal around the outside. I then mounted the front bracket to the body mount mounting point, marked the frame, and drilled a new hole in the frame (2 3/8" higher). (The "special nuts" that come with the kit still work fine.)
The driverside front took a bit more time. I had to drill a hole for the e-brake cable to run thru the bracket. I picked 1 1/2" since it was low enough for the cable and also cut up past the original elongated hole. (Getting the e-brake cable off and back on was a bit tricky, I used a ratched strap to gain enough slack to pop the cable loose at the adjustment nut.)
The rear brackets took very little time really. I started with 2"x2"x3/8" angle iron. I cut one side down to 1" so the original bracket would mount up correctly. Then drilled two mounting holes 2 3/8" apart (after a bit of measuring) one for the original bracket to mount to, and one to use to mount it to the spring bolt (rear mounting point.) If I did it again I'd use 1/4" angle. I had to grind the plate to thin it so the bolt would be long enough.
I also had to elongate the mounting holes on the brackets so the bars would adjust in another 3/8" to account for the angle iron.
Hope this helps.

Message: I'll post more pics to the Yahoo site as soon as I can. I've change the intake to 360 AirIntakez w/ a AirAid pre-filter since the last pics. I'm not sure how much bigger of a pic I can post to that site.

Message: Hey Moe,
You can also go with the Smittybilt Nerf Bars. They use the body mounts to hold them on. You'll have to get longer bolts, because the ones that it comes with are not long enough. You wont have to drill as many holes or make any brackets. Look at my picture.

Message: 4x4Dak is correct. You can use MANY of the other bars that mount to the BODY MOUNTS. The problem with them is that the bars sit in stock position, but the body is 3" higher. So you get a big gap. My set up moves the bars UP to the body. I may be wrong, but 4x4Daks pics seem to show the bars sit in stock position (too low for my taste).

Message: 4x4Dak - Photos of your truck, good looking. Just want I wanted on a truck to look like. I'll go with the same setup you have (Smittybilt Nerf Bars).
What size of bolt would I need? Where did you purchased your Nerf Bars and how much?
Thanks,
Moe

Message: Moe,
I can't remember the size of the bolts, but they should be about 3-4 inches longer than the ones that come with the Nerf Bars. I got them at Central 4 wheel drive for just over $200 shipped. they come with the mounting brackets.
