Subject: Advice on coil spacers?? IP: Logged
Message: I’m looking for some advice on what to purchase to raise my 98 Dakota up a couple of inches. I’m taking the combined advice that I got from TheRumbleFish and hybrid last week and I’m going to get a set of coil spacers… I just don’t know what kind. I know Daystar sells a set of 1.5” spacers (that somehow give you 2” of lift) for $74.95. Are these any good? And were do I get a set of blocks for the back to level her out? If anyone can point me in a good direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Oh, one last thing; how hard is this to do?

Message: if you're gonna do it , do it right . Fabtech or whoever you want springs 2" taller and you need a add aleaf for the rear , our leafs springs are under the axel. If you put a block you will lower the rear . Don't go with the spacers , try to ride with somebody that has them and see .......

Message: They really cause the ride to go sour, huh? How hard is it to add a leaf to the rear leaf springs? Does it make a difference that it's a 2wheel drive? So many questions...

Message: not only can coil spacers make your ride crappy, in some cases they can pop out which isnt good at all. Also add-a-leafs will stiffen the ride a good bit, but hey its a truck right? If you want less stiff leaf springs that will lift your truck, try deaver or other leaf spring manufacturers.

Message: aabout the add a leaf .... I don't think it's too stiff , I hear people saying that , but I don't agree . I have adjustable shocks in rear and are on level 2 and are fine . Now Deavers are the way to go , but you're forking out 500 bones vs 50 bones . The Deavers give you performance big time .....................Nate the add aleaf goes inbetween the overload leaf the very bottom one of the pack , so the add a leaf will be the next to the last . You remove the u bolts and last leaf and put in the add a leaf and put the last one on and put back u bolts .............I think there's a bolt holding all the leafs together ...........

Message: Add-a-leafs are a breeze to install shouldnt take more than 1 or 2 hours for most anybody. Shackles are a good option because they dont stiffen the ride at all, and are relatively cheap if I remember.
