Subject: K&N FIPK w/ body lift IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, i was just looking around for a FIPK price and i noticed in small letters that they weren't intended for vehicles with body lifts. I was wondering if any of you have attempted to fit it or not and if you got it to work with little modification. If not, what would be a kit that is just as good or would it be better to make my own.

Message: Do a quick search. I seem to remember some one saying they cut the shield to make it fit. Seems like alot of money for something your going to chop up. I have a similar problem with the Airaid system. I'm waiting now for my 360 Air Intakez unit to show up friday. Since its tubing the shield on the K&N and the air box of the Airaid will no longer be an issue. The tube for the Airaid system, which I'd have to buy to get the unit to fit w/ BL, is under developement and will cost around $100.(They also said it makes the intake VERY LOUD.) The 360 is $140 w/ special powder coating (Harley Davidson Black Wringle coat). I'm buying direct from Joe at 360. He's matching a price from a group buy at a distributor.

Message: I'm not sure about real world, some will say none of the intakes make a difference. But the K&N claims 8 hp increase while Airaid claims 11 hp.
Check out the pics on their web sites to see the diff. in construction.

Message: I had one before I got my body lift and loved it. Once I got the body lift I took the sheild off and ran just the filter. I then had the problem of the filter rubbing the fender and making a hole in the filter. I got a new filter and cut the tube at an angle so that the filter faced more up at an angle. This worked but looked lame with out the heat sheild. I then was off road and went through some water only to have my filter soaked by the fan. That was it, I had enough and of course I could not go back to stock. I walked into my auto parts store and asked for a 14" round filter I could mount on my throttle body. They handed me one as said "try this". After test fitting 4 of them in the parking lot I found one. I could not use it untill I got a Power Aide throttle body spacer to clear the upper radiator hose. Now I have a larger filter that will not get wet and all that space on the fender well for my air compressor.

Message: thanks perpetrate, did the new filter give you as much power as the FIPK or was it at least better than the stock air box system. also did you notice any difference when you put on the Power Aide tb spacer make a noticable difference with tourqe or fuel milage.
P.S. why did yall have to test fit 4 four of them, like what was the thing that was causeing it not to fit right.

Message: All I noticed was a noise increase from the TB spacer. I can hear a suckin sound that is alot louder then the FIPKs noise.
I tried 4 of them because most are made for a carberator that sits higher then our TB. So most would not fit snug agest the body. Once I found one that had a flat bottom I bought it. I then had to buy the K&N filter seperate because the kit came with a paper filter.
Also the stud was not centered in the TB so I drilled another hole and pluged the center hole in the filter top.
I did not pay attention of milage and power changes. I could have noticed a change by replacing the dirty FIPK filter with a clean 14" filter.

Message: I was told the Airaid kit will fit IF you use the MIT (tube) with it. I'm currently running it w/o the tube and the tubing from the unit to the resonator box is in a "Z" shape. Not too good for flow I would not think. I'm buying the 360 Air Intakez unit, since the Airair tube costs an extra $99. $140 for the 360 unit.

Message: I have the Airaid on my truck and was told there'd be no problem with lifting my truck. I said screw buying the tubing, I just bought 3" PVC and 2-3" Fernco connectors. Cost me a whole $20.

Message: just one question what the crap is a 2-3" fernco connector. and how long have you had it one, cause i heard someone on here say something about the PVC might not hold up to the underhood heat.

Message: bad dakota, I have the 360 and I don't have a clue whether it improves hp or better gas mileage. I just know it sounds awesome. If anything, it reduced my mpg since i'm always flooring it so i can hear the beautiful sound it makes. With regards to the bl question, I don't have a bl but rather a suspension lift. It seems to me that the bl would have no effect if your removing the air box. The 360 comes with a (i believe) a w&s 9" cone filter. Hope this helps.
