Message: Chris,
You should be able to run 31x10.5s on the factory wheels without doing a thing to your rig.
If you get after-market wheels with any shift in back-spacing, you will need the lift to reduce the rubbing you will most likely experience at the rear of the fender opening.

Message: any of these should work... 205/75-15, 215/75-15, 235/75-15. as well as the 31x10.5R15 (I have the "31x10.5 R15 LT" size on my 00 cc 4x4) you can check the label in your door frame, it should tell you orig tire size.

Message: What fits on Dan’s ’00 cc 4x4, doesn’t apply to your truck since an ‘87-‘96 Dakota doesn’t have the same wheel wells as a ‘97+. On a '91 Dakota, a 31x10.50 on stock rims will be tight, but is possible under the right circumstances. However, many aftermarket wheels have different offset than the stock rims. The factors you have to take into consideration are not only the height and width of the tire but the width and backspacing of the rims as well as what type of use the truck sees. My 96 4x4 has a set of 235/75R15 on a set of 589 rims with 3 1/2" backspacing. I get a slight amount of rubbing on the fender, full lock, on the street. With those rims, a 31” will rub some even with a 3” body lift. My ‘88 4x4 has 33x13.50s on a set of 15x10 rims also with a 3 1/2" backspacing. The truck has a 4” suspension lift, 3” body lift and cranked torsion bars. Two weeks ago I ripped the right front Bushwacker flare off the truck while wheeling when the tire caught it. If you’re going to do a 31” I would recommend staying with the stock rims. You may get a slight amount of rubbing on the frame rails full lock. If you go to an aftermarket rim, depending on the offset, you may get rubbing on the fenders at the back edge of the wheel wells. A 31” is the biggest I would go without any lift.

Note: I very frequently get email from people asking about the lift kit in my
’88. Typically, I will NOT respond the emails (about 90%) that ask questions
I’ve already covered on my web pages (ie. Where did you get the kit?, Who
makes it?, How much did it cost?, What modifications did you have to make to get it to fit your truck?. How hard was it to install? What problems did you
encounter? etc, etc...)
