Subject: a bigger 2wd lift IP: Logged
Message: ok so i decided the other day that a 3 inch body and a 3 inch suspension just wasnt enough for me. now i know some people may say that thats plenty! but it just isnt enough for me! so anyway to my point is there anywhere out ther i could find like a 6 inch suspension lift for a 2wd dakota!! i mean they make one for a 2wd ranger why not a dakota. i know i could customize one up but i would like to make things easy so my real question is does anyone know how to lift a 2wd 98 dakota 6 inches??

Message: doesn't exist and no quality mass production manuafacturer will make one. Your question is constantly asked and the after market does not seem to feel its cost effective to make us one.
you could try truckinsuspensions coil overs and a set of there upper a -arms if your feeling brave. they don't have the best of reputations.
also to anwser your question the reason they make a six inche lift for a renger and not a dakota is becuase of two reasons. 1. the rack and pinion steering system does not allow for anything over a 3inch safely and neither do the ball joints.(your 98 I beleive is worm and sector stearing so you may get around this) 2. that being said and since the standard coils and arms are unreliable that leaves spindles. because of the front arms ball joints etc, the only way to do spindles is to push the front track out 3-4 inches wider. most manufatorers don't want to mess with this.
If you want the height for tires, you may want to look into some fenders.
oh and not being an azz but all this is in previous posts found by searching for lifts over 6 inches.(not literaly)

Message: just a note about AIM/truckinsuspension...i called about their extended arms a few weeks back....i was assured by the lady that answered the phone that there was no way they would design a system that 'required' any other parts, and that stock tie rods would work....how moving the spindle out 3 inches with the stock rods would work is beyond me.....my one and only experience with AIM...

Message: conig it has nothing to do with the steering or rack and pininion . If you look at trophy trucks or full on prerunners that is the steering they have ........ the problem is the coil bucket that hold the spring wont let you put anything bigger than 3" lift if you want taller , you have to cut the bucket , plate it and run a shock hoop and run coil overs , but you are talking custom , that is why ...........the rack tierod ends get extended ............ I sent you pics of this ..........
