Message: Ok here is the deal. I have a 2001 dodge dakota club cab 4x4 with the 4.7 v8. The other day i went to home depot to get a few things. 13 bags of stone and 30 brick. What i found out was that my bed was hit the shackles for my leaf springs. So i went to a place called grant springs and had a extra leaf put in the back. Thats all fine and dandy. But after taking a look at the truck with the rear being raised about 2 inches I dont care for it. Now the guy that looked at it told me the torsion bars up front were cranked as far as they could be, but im not sure if its true or not. It is wierd because the front is so slopped now. I was wondering how high i could get with those stock torsions. what would i be able to replace it with to get my front end up higher? I want to try and stay away from a whole lift kit because i dont have the doe right now. But i cant stand the way it is. do they make bigger torsions for my truck?
Message: It does not matter what type of torsion bars you have, you can raise the front end only to the point that the upper bump-stops come together. Nobody can tell you exactly what that is, because we don't know how much room you currently have. Something easy to do is to put a floor jack under the front crossmember and raise the front of your rig until the bump-stops touch. Now look at it from the side. That is how high you can go. Now tighten the bolts on the adjusters that are at the rear of the torsion bars. Turn them in a ways, then let the jack down to see where the rig is setting. If you wish to go up more, jack it back up and turn some more. One of two things will occur: 1. You will run out of threads on the bolt. 2. You will mash the upper bump-stops (no big deal, they're rubber). Don't go buying new torsion bars until you have attempted this. You could very well be spending money needlessly. Hope this helps.
PS. If you do not have the front end raised when doing this, then it will be much harder to turn the bolts.
