Subject: Adding to the Body lift info IP: Logged
Message: I installed a Performance Accessories 3" body lift on my 2004 quad cab Saturday. Started reading the directions around 9 am, done by 6 pm. Working on the floor of my garage by my self. Not to difficult, really down right easy.
Just to add some info.
The 2004 has a different mechanical fan than the 2002 and older. The fan blades attach to the back of the clutch. So you can loosen it to help remove the lower fan shrowd, but you can not remove it unless you use a puller and remove the clutch, but no need to.
The front bumper only has 2 brackets. Those are on the frame horns. THERE ARE NO OUTTER BRACKETS.
The plastic shield will fit back up except for the 2 outter most attachment points. Any one found a nice STEEL skid plae for the front?
I removed the tire winch, assembly, moved it to the top of the frame and reattached it with some standard bolts. I had to bend the 2 mounting ears (the ones w/o the bolt hols) so they would support it against the frame. This way I could simply attached the crank rod above the frame and run it through the original rubber grommet. You can't use the hole in the bumper for the crank, but you can slide the crank between the bumper and tailgate and it all works.
Hope any of this might help some one.

Message: Roaddog, thanks for the information regarding your experience lifting your truck. I too will be installing a 3" body lift on my 03. What did you do first the front cab or the bed? Did you have a problem with the radiator hose? If so how did you resolve it?

Message: OK folks, new to this sight and have a 2001 Dak Quad 4.7, AWD, This is an awesome truck!!! Instead of a bodylift, do the torson keys and rear blocks and I was going to remove bumper to install winch mounting tray and make extending brackets to mount the front bumper forward the 8 to 10 inches needed for winch. will this not cure the front rubbing problem on the bumper-sheild so that I can fit 285-74-16s or even 305s, or am I missing something. I am just not a fan of the Bodylift look.

Message: The torsion bar keys are going to put your cv axles and ball joints in a nasty angle, not to mention the rest off your front suspension. The body lift, even though not the best looking way, is the better way to lift your truck. It will save you some money over the long run. 2000 and up Dak 4x4s Have pretty sh!tty ball joints anyway, they had a recall on them if you didn't know already, in my opinion they don't need any more stress then they have now!

Message: Kota Kid is 2" really placing the ball joints at a nasty angle, my A arms bottom on the snub as it is and "stiffening up the torsion bar" along with new shocks seems the ticket. by the way what shocks do you recommend?

Message: To fit the 305's or 285's, you will need the bodylift and some cranking of the Torsions bars if you want to minimize the rubbing. I have 305/75R16's with 3" BL and 1" cranked and they still rub at full turn at times.
