Subject: Torsion Bar Question

Message:
1. Do local mechanics or tire shops, such as NTB crank the torsion bars....or maybe a gas station mechanic? I want to put 33x1250r15 on my American Eagle 589's but they rub like a B*tch!

I was told cranking my torsion bars is a easy way to fit the 33's. I have a 3 inch body lift now, but they still rub.
Anyone have any answers for me? And if you have em, send some pics of torsion bars and an estimate of what i should pay to get them done if i have to.
Thanks!

dude, do it yourself. all you need is a 15/16 socket and 1/2 inch rachet i believe. now this will get you about 1-2 inches of lift in the front. but it will give you a stiffer ride and IT WILL SAG BACK DOWN. if you have a v6, then get torsion bars from a v8 and put them on. if you have a v8, got 1 ton torsion bars and put those on. Thanks Steve,

I plan on doin it myself...Just curious to know whether the cranking of the torsion bars and the 3 inch body should be enough lift to run 33x1250r15? When I first tried the 1250's with only my three inch body lift they rubbed at left and right turns on the front plastic part on the bumper, and on the back side of the fender. Do you think i can get enough lift outta the torsion bars to clear a 33. I have the AE 589's.

Also another opinion on running the stock 15x8 inch Dakota rim with the same BF Allterain 33x1250's... More info whether it will work or not is awesome! Thanks

if your gonna do it yourself.. first get some penetrating oil to help break the bolts loose... they can be a royal bitch, and get an air wratchet otherwise you;ll be under your truck all day... just make sure its all even... and only thing after that is an alignment, and pay attention to your ball joints.. this will cause them to go out a little faster

When you're saying a "stiffer ride," are you talking such as feeling bumps and things more? I was j/w. Not like I care if my truck runs harder, it'll be more like a truck then, lol.

a stiffer ride meaning that when you hit a speed bump or a pothole.. you are absolutely going to feel it and when you hit a bump.. the front of your truck dips down a little after hitting it.. after cranking the torsion bars.. it wont do that anymore your truck will basically ride like a lawnmower on bumpy roads

19buck, if rubbin is your prob, go for some new rims with a smaller backspace. some black steel cheapies are about 30-50 bucks a piece depending on what width you want. check out www.tyres1.com, they can help you out. they will make your wheels stick out more so the cops might get mad, so ya might need some fender flares too. good luck, Steve
