Subject: broken studs with wheel spacers? IP: Logged
Message: I am going to try to run 285x75 16's with the rancho lift on my 00 QC with 3/16" wheel spacers. Has anyone had any issues such as braking wheel studs?...Anyone been using them with no problem?
Message: I have been using then for more then a year and have had zero problems. I torq my wheels to 100 foot lbs and check them every 7,500 miles when I rotate the tires and change my oil (syntec). I off road at least once a month and tow heavy loads all the time. I drive fast and take chances and still no problems.
I will remove the spacers when I get new wheels when these Goodyears are bald. I will get some Weld wheels with 4 5/8" back spacing.
With out the spacers the load of the truck is supported on the centering ring of the hub. With the spacers all the load is put onto the studs at the point were the lug nut stops. With 6 we should be ok.
Message: I am with Craig on this one. I dance on my tippy toes allot when Off Roading. Craig has my old 1/4" spacers, the new 3/16" spacers I have say you dont need to extend the lugs to use them. You still will have most of the weight on the hub with the spacers and not on the lugs.
Here is some of my dancing on tippy toes a couple weeks ago.
It is about at 2 minutes 25 seconds you will see most of the stress on the front. I run this washout every few months to check flex and jsut for fun, it is always a different run.
Message: Cool. Sounds like the spacers should not be a problem. Has anyone out their had a bad experiance with spacers? I read a post from someone with a Ram (5 lug) that said he broke a stud.
I saw that vedio the other day. Very cool. Is that the wash out that starts at the bottom of truck hill? I also saw the one with the Jeep. That rock he crawls up is 5 or 5 1/2 feet vertical. Sweet!
