Subject: 33x12.5 mpg? IP: Logged
Message: How much decrease in mpg can I expect from going from 31x10.5 to 33x12.5? I'm getting about 15 highway and 13 city with my 5.2.

Message: very close to the same..
a taller tire in theory gives you a lower rpm...better gas mileage.
however, reality.. more weight, more surface area on road..
your gonna have noticeably slower acceleration, but gas mileage down at most 1 mpg

Message: It all depends on the type of tire you're using now and what you plan on using. When I switched to 33" All-Terrain's on my '98 5.2L from stock, I didn't notice any change. However, when those tires wore out and I switched to 33" Mud-Terrain's, my mileage dropped 2 mpg. The larger lugs not only make the tire heavier, they also create more wind resistance, rolling resistance, etc... 2 mpg isn't a whole lot, but I did notice a difference. (I check mileage at darn-near every fill-up)
