I raised a 97 2wd. Body lift is cheap, around $200. No change in ride quality with a body lift either. Suspension lifts are recommended if you are going to run your truck off road. But if the lift is purely for cosmetic purposes, go with the body it is cheaper. Oh yeah, suspension lifts start at around $700.

Molly,

No it's not stupid to raise your truck! If you do a body lift, get a Performance Accessories one. Jcham is right about the price and everything else he said, however, you will probably want to go and put on some all-terrain or mud tires after you lift it. The price on tires is pretty much across the board. You can pick up some pretty good tires for about $120/tire for your truck. Do good on your pig and you can pick up some rims too after the show ('bout $600)! That will really set your truck off! Hey, chicks driving big Daks are sexy!

The lift wasn't too bad installing. It was time consuming though. Really couldn't pinpoint what took so long, but it was me and a buddy the whole time kinda takin it EZ while working. The hardest part was the steering extension. It probably shouldn't have been so hard, but it just wouldn't slide over the stock box too good. Mine has an electric X-fer case. I'm not sure about the 98s, but that seems to be the hard part if you have it. I used the Performance Accessory 3" lift and everything pretty much went smooth. Just do it on a Saturday. I did mine on a Sunday and it made my Monday @ work pretty rough. Took me like 14 Hrs. I could probably do it again in 6-8 hrs though.
