All that being said >The procomp M/T is slightly better on road than the BFG M/T
How does the Procomp M/T compared directly to the BFG AT (I've been looking at the BFG A/T for a while now) Is it a lot noisier? I rotate and balance my tires religiously every 6000 miles. (2 oil changes)so I don't think they'll wear unevenly.
These are my 2 choices Procomp MT of BFG AT
There's a guy around town with 32" Procomp MT's on a QC, I'll have to flag him down and ride in his truck.
Thanks again

Message: The PC MT's are going to be a tad louder on road than the BFG AT's. But they should be anything bad. Not deafening like say boggers or something. If you have a chance to find the guy with them and go for a ride, do it. Thats the best way.

Message: Outstanding report Hawkeye!
That's what I've been looking for. I finally decided on the Eagle 1469 16x8 with the PC A/T 265/75R16's for my ride.
One question, as the webpage doesn't really say, the X-terrains are radials right? My friend wants to put them on his V10 Ram.
Thanks.

Message: HOWDY, i am still learning a lot of stuff about trucks and lifts and all that good stuff so if you could answer some basic questions for me it would really help me out so i might have a bit of a clue what ya'll(you guessed it, another texan dak owner) are talking about in these posts. ok,
1. torsion bars? what is their actual job on the truck and how do you "crank em up"?
2. if a tire is radial, what does that mean?
3. knobbyman: what are those mounts for in your photo section?
4. what are the biggest tires i can run on a 00' 4x4 dak with a 3 inch body lift?
5. does bigger suspension add height and clearance to your truck?
thanks for being patient with me, and i greatly appreciate it.

Message: 1. Torsion Bars are the springs for your front suspension.
2. Radial tires have to be mounted one way.. They can only roll the way they are supost to. My new tires are like that.. I'll show you pictures when I get them of why they are considered radial.
3. Those mounts are if you wanted to use tow hooks on the front of your truck.
4. 33x12.5x15
5. Yes , Yes.. You lift all your suspension up so you can clear larger tires and your frame is further off the ground. Only things that stay are the axles and the steering.
I think that covered it all ;-)
Where in Texas? I'm in D/FW.

Message: I'll agree with all that, Knobby, aside from the statement that radials need be mounted only one way. Many years ago that was the case, where you'd only rotate your radial tires front to back on the same side. Radials nowadays can be cross rotated just like any other tire.
Bascially, a radial tire is defined as a type of tire that's constructed with the reinforcing belts sideways under the tread rather than lengthwise. This makes the tire more flexible which reduces rolling resistance to improve fuel economy. A radial tire can be identified by looking for the letter "R" in the size designation on the tire's sidewall.

Message: I am a tire builder by trade for goodyear tire and rubber comapany. A radial tire is one that has strands of metal wire that make up the bands of the tires as opposed to nylon threads. The belts run horizontal to the tread and in some tires today still cannot be rotated in that they must spin in the same direction at all times. I believe what knobby was trying to say was that the xterrains are directional and are made to spin in only one direction. Most tires today are engineered to spin in only one direction and the reason is this, once you spin the tire at say 6000 miles in one direction you wear or break-in the rubber tread in a certain way that would cause the tire to wear very erratically if you were to turn it around and ride on it in the other direction.

| RE: Knobbyman Lift?? IP: Logged
Message: Actually, it's not "most" radial tires it is the few tires that are either top of the line high performance tires with directional tread or offroad tires with directional tread. With MOST radial tires it is recommended to do the cross-pattern rotation .... even says so in Goodyear's Tire Safety .pdf file found on their website, my Dakota owner's manual, and every other tire resource I've ever seen.
Now if you go 20k between rotations I could see a problem happening! ;o)
What brand/style tires are you planning on running, Knobby?

Message: OK. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH, YOU HAVE REALLY HELPED ME OUT. BUT NOW I HAVE A FEW MORE QUESTIONS.
1. I TOOK A LOOK AT MY TORSION BARS EARLIER AND THEY ARE AT TWO DIFFERENT SETTINGS, AND I ALWAYS THOUGHT MY TRUCK WAS LEANING A LITTLE. SO COULD THIS BE A REASON FOR THAT?
2. DO YOU HAVE TO GET A WHOLE SUSPENSION LIFT OR CAN YOU JUST GET SHOCKS? OR WILL THAT JUST PROVIDE A MORE COMFORTABLE RIDE.
3. I HAVE A 5 SPEED, AND SOMETIMES IF I RUN 2ND GEAR OUT I WILL SKIP 3RD AND GO STRAIGHT TO 4TH GEAR. IS THIS HARMFUL TO MY TRANSMISSION OR DOES IT MATTER?
THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE HELP.
I LIVE IN ALVIN, HOME OF NOLAN RYAN AND RON CARTER.HAHA. IT IS ABOUT AN HOUR SOUTH FROM HOUSTON.

Message: Hi, I'm new too. I think the answer to 4x4txdak's post is 1)Yes 2)Whole lift (longer shocks won't fit) 3)probably not
So Knobbyman, how's the install coming?
I've been reading the posts for a while. What's that spring for in the kit pictures on Truckin's website? Are you bummed that you don't get more travel up front? Do all the kits for dakotas have drop-down brackets?
I have a '99 5.2 CC 4x4, with Pirelli Scorpion AT's and it does pretty well in the sand dunes when I deflate (the tires) to 10psi.

Message: Knobby...you here yet????? Oh yeah, you got ur own lift thing goin. Here's the e-mail I got from dpkerns:
Hey Brian I am not going to be able to make it to
Arizona. I left my house at 1:30am to start the drive there. On the way my brakes gave out and the lights came on. Luckily I was able to get off the freeway, and was only 22 miles from my house. Dam tow truck cost me $120 to get home. Wasn't able to see where the brake fluid was leaking from, I didn't have a flash light and it was dark out. I might end up bringing it out there next week after i get the brakes fixed. hope you get this before you go over there.
