Subject: Gas Mileage Vs. Lift IP: Logged
Message: For those that have lifts...
How much of an affect did lifting have on your gas milleage??? I know the bigger tires would probably cause a drop as well as more wind resistence being higher up.
I'm considering some form of lift but I don't want to drop an already poor MPG figure drastically lower.
Thanks.

Message: Dodge Dog,
When I installed my lift wheels and tires my mileage went from about 300 miles per tank to about 240 miles per tank. Of course I havent corrected the speedometer yet so add about 20 miles on that. But I'll gladly pay the extra for gas with the improved look. Hope this helps.

Message: I lost about 1mpg after body lift installed with factory tires I would assume due to wind drag being greater with 3 inches more of front end to give wind resistance from bottom of skidplate to top of roof. I then lost another mpg after 33's put on, I figured it would be more but I drive mostly highway during the week. If I am not driving highway under 45 mph my mpg does not change unless I light up the tires at every stop sign/light:)

Message: I wonder if lift lips would help recoup some mileage? How about a streamlined front skidplate? How about not trying to fry the new bigger meats w/o new gears??? :) Just wondering

Message: My mileage has pretty much stayed the same. What I lost with the bigger tires and wind resistence, was made up be the lower RPM's on the highway. So it all balanced out. I still get about 16 around town, give or take a mpg or 2, depending on the weather and what mood I'm in. If its a good week and the Poison and Damn Yankees CD's are getting played a lot, then the mileage might go down to about 15.

Message: I think part of it is my intake, exhaust, plugs, and t stat. Together they really do mke it run nice. Viper has the same truck as mine only with 3.92's and his is almst the same. Maybe 14 or 15 mpg to my 16. Driving style is important too. Like I said, right cd's in and my mileage stinks.

Message: Hawk and BJ..you guys just crack me up...but Hawk, your totally right..it does depend on the cd-totally- DTW- I get about 16mpg..stock tires/susp. 4.7L w/ single Flowmaster. and a loud system that sometimes takes a lot of gas to play. lol. Those days avg. about 13.5 mpg.
oh hawk, don't you have the 4.7? BJ, don't you have the 5.9? I almost ordered that engine(5.9L), but while I was making that decision the little angel in my head(which was suggesting "GAS MILEAGE") beat up the little devil in my head (which was screaming "HOE POWER"..I mean "HORSEPOWER!!!"). I still wonder if the 'little devil' was right. ? >;-]~

Message: The reason certain cd's use more gas on my end is because certain ones cause me to drive a little harder and faster. I.E. - Normal day on I95, 65mph or flow with traffic. Sun shine, warm temps, good mood, Motely Crue Kickstart My Heart playing, on I95, 70 to 75 mph. Some songs just make you drive faster all by themselves.

Message: Jerobiemon,
Dunno which is the right decision, but we all seem to want more HP, so that's why I chose the 5.9 w/ the 3.92s. But I chose the 3.92 assuming bigger tires down the road. Switching to 33s will effectively give me about a 3.55 ratio, so that will help. Plus I plan on having a boat in my future, so I wanted all the power I could get from the factory.

Message: My milage has stayed about the same even after the lift and tires, the 33s helped equal out my 3.92 gears,I still get around 15mpg in town.Hawk is right though it does matter what is being played in the cd player,if Im playing Fuel by Metalica my "fuel"really starts to drop fast!
