Subject: 5-speed and Body Lift? IP: Logged
Message: I have an 01 QC and I'm ordering the Performance Accessories 3" body lift. I looked over the old stuff and didn't see anything about a 3" body lift with the manual (unless I missed one). Looking at my shift lever it practically makes contact with the console now. The length is OK but I'm thinking it will need to be bent. Anyone have any experience with this lift and the 5-speed? What did you do about the lever? Can I do this now and get it out of the way? I will be installing the lift myself when I get the kit. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jim

I received an extension from Performance Accessories, but am not very happy with it. After welding it in, the shifter still hit the console and I had to bend it. I would recommend just heating up the S part of your shifter and straightening it out.

Message: i have a 3" body lift on my 98, the lift will cause 2nd gear to be tough to get in but i found that if you pull the shift boot up you shouldnt have any problems. the kit will tell you to heat up and bend the shifter.

Message: hey bro, i just put one on myself and your right the shifter causes a problem. you see, the boot forms around a plastic piece that secures the boot into the console, the problem is, that piece is like 3/4" wide causing all kindsa hell. i had a wielding shop put in a three inch link between the S and the pivot ball, however, the end closer to the S had to be modified a little bit. instead of wielding straight just like it was before it had to be tilted slightly to clear the console and that damn piece of plastic. so they started the wield and then tilted back a bit and filled the gap with wield. what i mean by tilting it back; say your sitting in your truck, the shifter had to be tilted towards the dash a little to clear the console.
i also had problems with second gear, it didnt want to stay in second that is why i had them tilt the shift link, not much, just enough to clear.
by the way, i had them put the three inch link in to match the three inch blocks. why i still had problems i dont know, but it is fixed now.
oh, and if they dont get it exactly right you can always take a file to it, to get it right.
hope this helps, any questions feel free to email.

Message: I just finished my body lift this week and i made my self a 3 inch extention to screw into the shifter and then back to the trans. I did have to grind the metal and rubber plate so it went into 2nd and 4th with no problem just used some electrial tape to cover it up were the rubber was cut. works fine and keeps the moisture out. i did bend the S-bend slightly and also had to grind a little bit off the plastic piece that holds the boot down. not to hard. the screw is 14 mm and a local tool place should have some of it in stock. I just happened to buy a 4 inch piece left over. and grinded the rest off. hopes this makes sense and helps out. and it is still close to the dash and i can hit it if i shift real hard but normal shifting keeps it clear and no problmes also looks better back in the factory location
