Message: I see some of you have put the lift lip gap covers on your trucks. I have installed my 3" body lift, and was wondering where the best place to get some of those covers. The ones on Dan's truck look really nice. Would it be better to make some out of plastic or just buy some? Thanks for the advice.

Message: I like mine...got them through 4wheelparts warehouse, somewhere between $50-$60 I think. They are worth it in my opinion...no measuring, cutting, etc. Just hang them on. I did buy four extra push-pin plastic retaining thingies (two for each side on the front wheelwells) because there's no holes or clips provided for the front and rear lower corners of the lip and it looked like the lips would flap around a bit without something holding down the corners.

Message: Hey man, no afront to Dan but the lips youll get are the same things you can make for alot cheeper. I did a 3 body lift and went to Lowes and got some of that rubber floor trim they use in schools now. Nice, thick and pliable. I just used some clear glue and some self taping screws. Cost like $12.00 Easy to do as well. Another guy here said he wishes he made his instead of ordering them from a catalog. Good Luck.

Message: Joe E.
No offense taken at all! I will freely admit that I paid about four times what I could have if I had made them myself. I was just too lazy to do it myself.

Message: Cool man. I just did not want to sound rude or anything. I know how that type of thing goes. You want something but rather spend the $ to get it than to take up your time when you'd rather be doing something else. Last week, I blew a header gasket and I just did not feel like dealing with it. So I took it to my mech. and paid him to do it. Boy it was nice. Got it fixed and did not even have to get all greased up! It would be nice to be rich and do that with everything!
By the way, your truck looks great. Did You say you were in Tampa FLA? I am near Ft. Myers. Maybe see you at a Fla meet "if we ever get it going."

Message: I HATED that gap that was showing after my lift. So…
I made my guards this weekend. Used and idea from another board member. I went to Home Depot and bought a 20' roll of landscape edging ( the stuff with one smooth side) and a tube of construction adhesive. Tah Da!!
In the rear there is a small lip on the inside of the inner fender (where the gap is). The edging has a small tube molded along the top. I put some adhesive on this tube and it sat right in the lip of the inner fender. Got the wife to sit and hold it until it set. Looks great.
The front was almost as easy. There is some heat shield on the inner part of the fender. Trimmed of the tube thingy on this one, more adhesive and slid the edging between the heat shield and the plastic fender. The wife didn’t even have to hold it there. In the front I had to put 2 strips of this edging because it’s only like 4” tall and there seemed to be one heluva gap there.
I was a little worried about the front pass side getting hot (it’s close to the exhaust manifold heat shield) I went for a hour drive and it was as cool as a cucumber.
CHEAP!!
$4 for the edging and $3 for the adhesive (still over half a tube left)
Try it if your not made of money, and want to fill the gap.

Message: For the rears, I went to THE Home Depot and bought 2 pieces of thick plastic edging that was in the flooring section.....6" wide and 48" long. Unscrewed the 2 screws on the front part of inner fenderwell and the 2 screws on the rear part of the inner fenderwell, slid the ends BEHIND the inners, reattached the 4 factory screws, added some black flat head self-tapping screws along the top of the long edge. Repeat for other side!!!!! No cutting, no waiting for glue to set...just sit and admire how much money you saved for more beer!!!

Message: Dan, I broke down and bought the gap guards from PA. Too much gap to fill with anything else. I have a question for you... did you trim them before you put them on? Your's don't look much like the ones I got for my 2001. These are shiny on one side and kinda a matte finish on the other and they go all the way around the wheel well on the front when I held them up there.
I'll post a pic of them at:

Thanks,
Chris

Message: This question can also be directed toward "Brad" w/ the Xterrains on 15x10 wheels. I noticed he has gap guards on his as well and they don't look like the ones I got either. The part number on the box appears to be right, I wonder if they put the wrong ones in the box. The rears look correct tho.
