 Subject: 2003/2004 Dakota suspension lift

Anyone else notice that there is no suspension lift for the 2003/2004 4x4 Dakotas? The only one that comes close is Rancho. Rancho makes one for the 2002 but it will not work on the 2003/2004. Here is my suggestion... Maybe if everybody who would like to put a suspension lift on their 2003/2004 dakota emailed Rancho, they would get one on the market. I asked Rancho and they said they were not sure if they were going to make one at all. Hopefully with enough emails they will start producing one. Oh yeah, if you have any other forums you go to, put a similar post on it.

I read somewhere that they didnt want to make one because it will only cover '03 and '04 with the newer '05 changing everything. Not enough demand for one to build one. I have a '02 and tried emailing a question about ever making something bigger then the 3" but never got a responds back. Where did you get them email address. Im not sure if I did it right. Ill try again.

Yea, I emailed them about my 04 dakota a while back. I haven't received a response yet but with any luck, maybe we'll see something. To be honest I'd be willing to pay the price to get one fabricated. I just don't know the right people to talk to.

You can retrofit the front brakes from a 2002 on your 2003. But the kit will not allow larger than 31x10.5 tires due to the tires hitting the Rancho suspension parts... I haven't posted in quite awhile but there was a guy awhile ago who did the retrofit... I even called Rancho about it...

DAN YOU CAN USE 02 KIT WITH USING 02 BRAKE PARTS TO LIFT YOUR 03 ALL THE PARTS ARE LISTED ON PAGE 3 UNDER 03 QUADCAB LIFT IT WILL COST YOU ABOUT $200 MORE TODO IT THAT WAY MY WIFE'S 03 QUAD CAB WAS LIFTED [3IN BOD&3IN SUSP] AT 32K NOW HAS 98K WE HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL!!!! I found a leveling kit made by totalperformanceonline.com it says it will raise it about 2-3", I also read if you crank the torsion bars it will raise the front. I'm looking to raise my 04 dodg dkta slt 4x4

I found a suspention lift kit last year and saved it all to my computer then it crashed, but i did find the complete kit for 03/04. still working on finding it again. will post it as soon as i do. have hope someone makes it.

truckinsuspension.com has a 4.5" and 6.5" lift for the '03 R&P steering Dakotas. Been looking at it for about 1 1/2 years but haven't made the decision to get either yet. hope this helps my fellow Dakota owners. Just look under lifted suspensions, then under Dodge.

one potential problem with going from 03 brake system to 02 brake system is calipers. The 02 is single piston and 03 is dual.
I haven't checked the list to see if they are swapping calipers or not in the conversion, just making an observation.

I just joined this web site and read up on what you guys have been talking about. And i want to know if i'm reading this right. If i change my front brakes on my 2003 4x4 Quad cab Dakota to 2002 brakes i can fit the 2002 Rancho 3 inch lift on my 2003.

zack you are right using the 02 kit on 03 you will need to use 02 brakes parts because of the way the calipers hook up to the steering knuckles(03 brakes dual 02 are single no stopping problems at all) i did my wifes 03 in 03 and trade it off in 08 with over 100k with no problem at all so if you want to lift your 03 look back a couple pages and find the article on 03/04 quad cab lift and all the part # are right ther because rancho is not going to make steering knuckles just for the 03/04 models so good luck and jackit up today

Downgrading the brakes and then lifting the truck, adding bigger tires, Doesn't make sense to me. WHY? To be unsafe? I replaced my 02 brakes because they where junk and you that have 03 plus wanna downgrade to that 02 junk? I must be getting old.

One more thought, without looking at the weight differences, I know the 03's plus have to weigh more. More weight, less brake. Doesn't make sense.

the lift from truckin suspension has one major drawback and that is that the wholes do not always line up, and for the price you would pay on there you do not get any suspension components such as the shock or springs. I have emailed several companies about their lift and why not for the 03/04 Dakota they all replied with not enough of a demand, you can crank up the torsion bars but your front end geometry goes out of whack, my advice is convert to a coil sprung system and lift it that way.

I have a Rancho 3" on my 02 QC. The only issue I have is that the angle on the Front Drive shaft is too steep. It has one of those rubber seals on the inside of the shaft and it keeps splitting and spitting all the grease out. The drop brakets for the front diff seem to be too much. can anyone give me some hints on what to do to keep from eating up the front drive shaft? i have gone through 3 shafts since october of 06.

try a different u joint one that allows the angle then you won't be going through so many drive lines

do they make a different flange for that particular xfer case? i have been to many driveshaft shops in phx and they tell me i need to swap out xfer cases and then have one built with the old style 2 u-joint cv joint.
