Subject: 2003 vs older models question IP: Logged
Message: OK, I did the search approach but found about a billion results, and it seems most are not relevant. What I am wondering is what are the differences in the 2002 and 2003 dakota. I am wondering because I want to lift my 2003 Dak with a suspension lift. I have been told that the difference is rack and pinion steering. I visited a 4x4 shop today that has lifted Daks before and he told me that the 2002 Daks are rack and pinion also. I know that Rancho makes a suspension lift for the 2002 Dak. Does anyone know what the difference/s are? I am really curious because my truck has been begging me for a lift and some more "capable" tires off road (or were those the voices in my head). Either way, any insight would be great.

Message: I think it's something with the spindle being slightly redesigned. Might want to go to www.gorancho.com and shoot them a message. They should be able to tell ya pretty readily. Hope this helps.

Message: i have lifted a 2003 quadcab. the only difference is the rotors and other related parts are bigger, so if you want to lift it that way you must replace the rotors etc...

Message: Scruffy,
Sounds like it will become much more of a project by changing rotors and such. How much extra work and cost might I be looking at.
JES,
I emailed Rancho and they told me the lift will not work for a 2003. The reason I aksed was because at the 4x4 shop, they told me that sometimes a lift will work on a later year truck, is only that Rancho may not have tested the lift on them yet.

Message: the extra work to change the rotors, calipers and pads is minimal at best because during the lift process you have to disassemble everything down to and including the spindle. as far as everything else it bolted up very easily. as for cost it was roughly 400 canadian.

Message: I'd get in touch w/ Rancho and ask them specifically why it won't work.
Scruffy -- you put on a Rancho 3" lift for $400 Canadian? I'm missing something here.

Message: sorry if i mislead you guys about the lift. it is the rancho suspension lift. the cost for the lift itself was 3500 canadian. the 400 was just to replace the rotors, calipers, pads and related mounting hardware. the reason for the new brakes is the spindle is different. the brakes were a smaller diameter on the earlier model trucks. just had to lift it regardless of cost. hope to get a bodylift and larger tires sometime this year.
