Message: you are going to have to cut the shifter into two pieces and weld in the 3" extention piece or you will never get it to shift again.

Message: You don't have to cut the shifter. Or at least I didn't. I lifted my 97 with the body lift, and instead of cutting it, I simply heated it and put a curve over the entire length of the shifter. Be careful, though if you go this route because the shifters are tubing, not solid, and too much heat will crumple them.(Learned this the hard way) Also mine was a 2WD, so for your 4WD stick I'm not sure what has to be done.

Message: I put a 3" body on my 99" 4+4. I put a 3" theaded extention on the end of the transfer case lever that i had made at a shop. This way i did not have to cut and weld a piece on. The lever still has a factory look when i was done.
You never said if you have an auto or manual tranny?

Message: I took a different route than most on this board. I removed the stock console the lower steel/rubber floor seal. Make sure to do this before you lift no matter what your plan for the stick is. I then the lower floor seal and "skinned" it with a utility knife. Simply cut around the outer edge then carefully remove both sides of rubber from the metal. Then I reinstalled the upper, rubber half, back on the floor with the old screws and washers. I bought a universal leather shift boot from JC Whitney. Then I cut a piece of 1/2" plywood in the shape of the floor. Covered it with thick fabric from the craft store. Then used self tapping screws to mount it to the floor. A new shift knob and the install is done. Most people wanted to keep the stock console. The lower position of the shifter is personnaly more comfortable to me now. The new setup looks very trick and is a totally different approach. I get a lot of compliments on how it looks. The only drawback is that I lost my cupholders.
