Subject: axle flip it?

Message:
call me crazy or stupid or what ever, but i just want an answer. and, "to each, his own"....

i want to lower my 87 4x4 to level it out, i have the front lowered about 3 inches by cranking down the torsion bars. does anyone know if i can use a flip kit and move the axle over top of the springs like the 2wds are? AIM industries sell a 5 inch flip kit for an 87 2wd to flip the axle from on top the the springs to underneath the springs to lift the the rear.

couldnt i just do this in reverse since the actual axle tube would be the same diameter and its the same principle, but in just reverse?

or does anyone know a way to do this. this way seems to be the easiest and cheapest and most effective.

thanks.

steve.

yes you could but you will get like 5" of drop so your rear may droop lower than the front ...........

ok thats what i figured..

im lookin for about a 4 inch drop and iv been told that the dropped shackles will work. im emailing around to find out if this is true and if a can use the shackle / hanger combo from beltech to acheive the 4inch drop im lookin for.

it seems like it will work, but i do not know how the 2wd rears are set up. i know the axle location is different between the 2wds and 4wds (axle is on top for 2wd, 4wd is underneath), but how bout the hangers and shackles?

does the hanger face down like the 4wd so that the spring sits underneath the hanger? how bout the shackle, is it set up so that it faces up and the spring is located at the top of it (opposite the way the front hanger faces)?

you know any of this or anyone that can answer this?

thanks
steve
