Subject: Step bars on Lifted 2wd IP: Logged
Message: I went ahead and got the 3" body lift from Perf Assc and also put on a set 265/75/16 BFGs, the new KO series (SWEET). Now I'm looking at putting on a set of step bars. Is there a kit you can buy to compensate for the body lift when installing the step bars?
Thanks,
Porter

Message: I don't know anyone that has fixed the gap caused by the body lift. I think what I'd do if figure out how they hook up and see if you can raise that like 2 1/2" and you'd be set.

Message: I have been "researching" this dilemma for some time and have many thought hours into it. I have found that you will likely pay as much as you paid for the steps themselves for custom brackets, or if you are luck enought to have the equipment and skills to make the brackets yourself. Most stepbars attach underneath the body mounts by removing the factory bolt and using longer bolts to attach the bracket. Some attach to both body mount and frame, others only frame. The frame mounted steps would probably be easier to fabricate 3" raised brackets than the body mount only attached steps due the placement underneath body mounts. You could place the brackets on top of body mount between mount and lift block but would need to shave down lift block by the thickness of bracket, to do this accurately would be most difficult and have not been able to think of another way to do it.
I am considereding the CARR superhoop steps that actually attach to body with bolts, this is the only set-up that is not effected by a body lift that I have found.
If someone could make a bracket for something like the Westin Step Bars, they would probably make a fortune with all the body lifted trucks driving around. If I had the resources, I would do it, anyone else wanna try it or have other ideas to share?

Message: The only Nerf's that I found for the Dakota that mount to the frame are the ones that TruckinSuspension made for me. They put them in the mail yesterday so I should recieve them within 5 business days. I think the easiest way to go would be to get these and then fab maybe weld a piece of metal to the top of the frame about 3" tall and them bolt/weld the nerfs to that piece. When I get the nerfs I'll measure everything and see if there is enough frame that you wouldn't need to weld a extra piece in the middle there. But.... Again I play the waiting game w/ UPS & Truckin Suspension :(... Still... waiting....

Message: check out my pics. I just welded a plate to the brackets that came with the kit and welded the bars to the new plates, just 3" higher. I took pics of it. Its not show material but it gets the job done.
