Subject: diff leak after fabtech and/or amsoil IP: Logged
Message: I recently installed the fabtech lift a little while after I changed the differential fluid using Amsoil 75w90 gear lube. I am not sure which really caused it (or if both caused it). I noticed fluid leaking out from the pinion seal part of the differential. I changed the seal this weekend, but I think it may still be leaking. Any sugguestions?

Message: I don't see how either could cause the pinion seal to leak. Keep in mind though that when you install synthetic fluids that they will "clean" small bits of crud from your seals. You may have had a bad seal before, but the leak was plugged. Adding the Amsoil just exposed it.

Message: It may be easier to just add the fluit if it is that front seal. It is a pain to get that front seal changed out.

Message: So you have changed both the rear cover gasket seal and the front cv-shaft seal and still have a leak. Now the leak itself is it coming out of the rear dif cover or from the front down to the rear diff at it's lowest point? Is it leaking from the axle shafts where they mate into the axle housing? If the latter it is possible the axles aren't sealing enought to keep the oil in there.

Message: Definitely from the front dripping down to the lowest point.

Message: There is a front seal where the cv-shaft mates to the diff you will have to take that off and the pinion possibly to get that seal replaced. It is a rightous pain to do and in most cases it is just easier to keep adding fluid.
