Subject: Stacking Lift Kits IP: Logged
Message: I need to know if anyone has anything bad to say, or has had problems resulting from stacking lift kits. I have a 3" Rancho lift on my 2002 Dakota and want to install a 3" Body Lift. Please let me know about your thoughts or problems with this idea. Thanks.

Message: Get a larger block, or add-a-leaf or new springs, don't stack blocks!

Message: I never intended to stack blocks on this truck. I'm planning to add a Body lift which should have nothing to do with the suspension lift. I was just wondering if anyone had done this and if they had any problems with it.

Message: Officially, almost every manufacturer of lift kits has stated somewhere in their documentation, it is not recommend to combine body and suspension lifts. But, that’s mostly included because of their lawyers. Fact is, we live in a society that has a need for “Do not use in the shower” warning labels on electric hair dryers, because some moron sued some hair dryer company, after getting Zapped, claiming he/she didn’t know of the potential danger. By including warnings, manufactures are setting limits to their liability. Truth is, lift kits alter the center of gravity of a vehicle and combining body and suspension kits alters it that much more. With that said, despite the common warning, it is not that uncommon to see trucks with both installed. I’ve had both installed on several different trucks and plan on doing it again. My ’88 Dakota has a 3” body, 4” suspension, cranked torsion bars and add-a-leafs. I really didn’t notice that much of a difference after installing the lifts. While I wouldn’t take a sharp turn at unreasonable rate of speed, I’ve had it on the trails, a number of times with one of the rear wheels way off the ground. Actually, I’m kind of surprised I haven’t set it on it’s side yet, considering I’ve really pushed the limits a few times.

Message: Wow, thanks Walt. Thats about what I suspected. The two large 4x4 shops in my area (Tacoma, WA.) will both sell me a 3" body lift but not install it due to the fact that I already have the suspension lift. Same answer you gave me, its the liabilty that won't allow them to do it. They were also more then happey to give the name of a highly reccomended person who will install it for me. Thanks for all the info.
