Subject: '02 2wd 3" lift, tire choice? IP: Logged
Message: Hey all,
I have an '02 Dakota, single cab, 3.9v6. I bought brand new in November of '02. I've not done much to it other than a pioneer deck & tow package. I'm looking into the 3" fabtech suspension lift.( http://www.stylinconcepts.com/parts.cfm/partfamilyid/1319 ) Anyway,...I'm wanting to keep the stock wheels(15's), will 31x10.50's do the trick? Will I have any issues with them rubbing or anything? If anyone has any pics of this setup I'd greatly appreciate it. One of the main reasons for me doing this is because I'm going to be pulling a sandrail & quad on a trailer, and have another quad in the bed...it will do it now but it squats bad in the back & I don't like it. Any feedback at all will be appreciated.
Thanks!

Message: Here's what they(FabTech) wrote me about the tires/wheels---"We recommend a 31x10.50 size tire with a 7" wide wheel with 3 & 3/4" back spacing."--- Now can anyone tell me the width of the stock 15" wheels on my truck & the back spacing. Sorry for all the damn questions. I just want to get everything done right the 1st time. ;)

Message: The Stock wheel backspacing is 5-5.5 inches or so. Your going to have to get an aftermarket rim most likely your best choice are Eagle Alloys they have several styles that fit the Dakota in that Backspacing

Message: Yeah, the AE589's are good. If you call Eagle they no longer make this wheel with our requirements on this lift. So you have to find someone that bought a lot of them or find them used, Ebay.com rings .... Either way I'm still running my stock wheels on the fabtech 3" with 2" wheel spacers. 31's fit without rubbing I'm looking to fit 32's

Message: How do the wheel spacers hold up? Where's a good place to get them & about how much are they?
I'd just assume keep the stock wheels right now due to my limitted budget, or lack there-of. hehe
You guys are great, thanks again for the help! ;)

Message: you can get the ae 589's still , 15x8 3.25 backspacing or 15x7 4" backspacing both fit and have no problems . they say 3 3/4 to be on the safe side , 3.25 is less so that one is fine according to the need ....... spacers will be about the same money as rims ..... what would you run spacers or rims , isent you some pics the graphite is mine and the blue one is body plus fabtech ..............

Message: I prefer the wheels over spacers any day. I had originally got wheels from eagle but they decided to send me chevy wheels and was in a bind. I called and they said they no longer made 3.75" AE589's for the truck. They could locate possibly but 3 weeks wait time. I didn't want to wait for wheels so I tossed on some 2" wheel spacers to clear the arms.
The spacers are doing fine as well as everything else. If I can remember that far back I paid ~$200 bucks for the spacers. I think it was like 150 bucks more for wheels.
I got the pics, thanks ! So the grey one is 3.25" 15x8 ? I didn't want to run a small backspace because I didn't want my wheels to stick out too far. I was thinking of a 15x7 3.75" wheel. I want to run 32's, the 31's come pretty close to rubbing now that the truck is higher and the middle of the tire is right at the bottom of the wheel well. I had no problems running 31's at stock height as the wheel fit up into the wheel well more.
I believe the stock wheels were 5.5" backspacing so 5.5-2.0 (wheel spacer size) = 3.5" backspacing and the front wheels barely stick out the sides.
I should take some pics and post.

I know when I called Eagle on these a few months back they claimed to have stopped making these. I'm assuming these are the ones that are on your grey truck ?

Message: out of the rims available for our trucks the 589 is got to be the most sold to dak owners , I just bought one last week for my spare ( keep in mind that if you get a flat you wont be able to use spare on the front ) for me anyway . 3.5 3.25 have a 1/4 inch difference , you think that's too much backspacing ???????they never made a 3.75 rim if you look at a chart of their rims they make all their 8" for all bolt patterns 3.25 backspacing ...................

Message: the problem is not the height , it's the wheel hitting the rear of the fender well ..........3" lift with 8" depending on backspacing , if you re do your brake lines and use a rim with more backspacing you can fit a 32 with the specs from fabtech a 31 , the rims will hit the balljoint on the stockers or the brake lines on other rims ....................

Is that on the stock 15" wheels? But that's a body lift also, with the suspension lift wouldn't it be a bit of a different story?
