 Subject: Q) '03 Rear Bumper: What is it?

I did not raise my bumper(rear) yet due to that I wanted to paint the brackets. Upon my observation of the rear bumper- I found a Bar that connects to the bumper brackets - can anyone tell me what this is? and if it is under compression. It appears to be a safety feature when the vehicle is rear - ended. Let me know and thanx, Jim

it's a vibration eliminator for quad cabs only , it's not under pressure . It acts like a damper ....... Herd some people removed it and could not feel difference ....................
