Subject: 2" lifts? IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking to lift my 03 dakota QC, but only want a 2". Clearance is not an issue, I just want a little bigger (aggressive) tire for snow. I don't have a problem with body lifts, but I have a five speed and I don't want to deal with modifying the linkage. Any info on a lift I can install and forget about would be appreciated as I don't want to spend every weekend tinkering with the truck. I just read about Fabtech springs and add a leaf. Is this s good deal, anyone? All info is appreciated.

Message: Do you have a 2wd or a 4wd? Fabtech only makes a kit for 2wd Dakotas. Since you mention springs, I'm assuming it a 2wd. A 2" lift will put you where a stock 4X4 sits, so you should be OK up to 31" tires. With the body lift, you will have to modify the shifter. If you do have a 4X4, cheapest way is add a leaf and cranked torsion bars.

Message: Thanks for the replies. Yes it is a 2wd. I have checked out Fabtech, but it seems that they only offer the springs for the front and don't mention anything with the leafs in the rear. Timberwolf, I noticed that you have a 1.5" lift. What does yours consist of?

Message: Add a leaf in back raised it about 1.5" and I cranked the torsion bars in front to level it out. I have 32X11.5 tires and it's plenty for those. I didn't want the "jacked up" look, so I did it this way instead of the body lift. If you look at it from a distance, you can't even tell it's raised. Note: the pictures on this site are old. Lift was done, but 31" tires. The 32's, although only 1" taller, really make it look better IMHO.

Message: Thanks for the info Timberwolf. I was thinking about adding a leaf to the rear in addition to the new Fabtech springs in the front. The are supposed to add two inches, but the weight of the V8 is said to lower that a bit. So, the front and rear should be level? Thanks for all the information. One more quick question. How is your add-a-leaf as far as stiffness goes? I don't want anything that is too stiff and causes too much bounce. Thanks again.

Message: I have a 95 Dakota 4X4 ext. cab truck. I just bought it. It has 31 in. tires on it. I would like to put a small life kit on it, but i dont know much about them. I would like a suspension lift if they were not to expensive, but I think my budget is leaning more towards a body lift. Does anyone know where to find a good lift(body or suspension) and about how much each would cost. Any info would help. Thanks Travis

Message: To be honest I forget what it was like before, but it doesn't cause any wheel hop hitting bumps in corners or anything like that. It didn't unsettle the suspension at all. I would assume that you will feel a minimum difference, but it won't be too bad.

Message: Thanks for all the information, Timberwolf. I think I'll procede with the springs in front and add-a-leaf in back. The tires will have to wait for now, maybe next winter. Have a good year.
