Since the 2wd models have the leaf springs under the axle, I was wondering if it would be hard to mount them over the axle? If anyone has any info on this, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, how much lift would that give me?

Hi there, there is a company called AIM ind. They sell a spring over lift kit for the rear od Dakotas. Go to www.truckn.com I believe it sells for $100 bucks and lifts lift 4-6 in. Check it out. It might be what your looking for. Another possobility is their hanger lift or shackle lift. Good Luck.

The problem with that is the steering rack. There's no room for more than 3" of suspension lift.

What about new spindles, kinda like the Silverado 6" lift from Fabtech? I don't know of anyone who makes one for 97+ Daks, but would that help another 3"?

I cant believe that truckn place is just down from you. Thats crazy and lucky! I have also had the 3in front susp problem. I wanted to take a 3in lift and put a spacer on it to make 4 or 5 ins. Not gonna happen though. I also inquired about spindles, not for my Gen I dak either. I even talked to someone about custom fabricating them, did not work out. There are in Cal. and I am in Fla. Have you thought about doing the 3in susp. lift and a 3in body lift? There are people here who crap on body lifts but I have had no problem with mine what so ever. I had it professionally installed. They are also people on this site with the 3in body lift alone that run 32 or 33's I think. You could run some serious meats with 6in of lift though. Hopefully you will not have the same 2wd problem I had with 2wd being stock lower than 4x4's. Keep looking aboutt those spindles, I heard Fabtech is making them but I an not sure if your particular application is included. Good Luck man, keep up hope too. That what I am doing!

it will lower the rack and pinion and have a built in skid plate so they can make a lift spindle for the 2wd dak. the new lift spindle will give you a total of 3in. of lift. i guess you could even use a spacer if you wanted to. so higher and higher your dak goes with another 2 or 3in. of lift. if you think about it 3in body lift, 3in. suspenion lift, 3in. spindle lift, and a 3in. spacer do you hear 35's or even 38's knocking????!!!!! ok ok ok maybe not 38's, but can you blame a guy for dreaming? lol. well, ya have a nice day

Hey all. A buddy of mine at work wants to buy my 31x10.50's for his 2000 2wd Dakota. He has the stock rims (same as the ones on my 4x4 Dakota). I'm going with a 33x12.50, so he wants mine. Will they fit a 2wd? Any rubbing? He is a friend so I don't just want to say, here you go good luck.
Any help would be appreciated.

he might need to buy a 3" body lift from proformance products then it shouldn't rub. i got mine for around $250, but the tires will fit on the stock rims though.

well i'm a jeep guy. i own an '89 comanche in Tampa, FL. but any way, i did a spring-over on it and it was really easy, but you'll need a grinder and welder. and since there's no transfer case on the 2wd's the drive shaft should be long enough, but you'll probably need a longer rear brake line at the least.
my "other" vehicle is a 98 2wd 2.5 dakota. i've noticed that the rear suspension is very soft. if you were to do a spring over then axle wrap would be a major problem. traction bars will fix that though. in all honesty, the hardest part about doing a spring-over is figuring out to lift the front to match.
here's a thought, is it possible to make a tapered body lift? what i mean is, could you have 0 inch BL in the rear, and then increment each spacer so that you have 3" in the front. if not then we shall just await the 3" spindle...
