Subject: Advice needed: 33 vs. 285's IP: Logged
Message: This month, I will be installing a 3 in. body lift on my '03 Quad cab. The advice that I'm seeking from you all is this: can the BFG A/T 33's work with a 16x8 rim on my truck ( my mechanic say's "no", apparently, it will rub. He advised to go with the 285's, which is a little smaller than the 33's. if anyone has advice on this subject or some possible pic's - it would be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance, Jim aka XtremeX

Message: I dont know if this will help but, I have a 6.5" suspension lift with 33x12.50 on 15x8 rims. The tires clear unless there is flex and I am turning then they rub the from bumper just a hair. I would guess that the 3" lift will not leave you much room for turning or flexing.

Message: I think I can help. I installed 285x75x16 Dueler's on my truck with a 3" body lift and all I had to do was trim some of the plastic fenderwell off. Also, I have no rubbing on the frame at all. If you install 33's, you will probably have some rubbing on the frame at full turn because they are 12.5" wide where as a 285 tire is only 11.5" wide. Also a 285 is taller, so with a 33 you may not need to trim the fenderwell. No matter which tire you pick you will some rubbing somewhere. Pick your poison. Also, which rims are you using? If you are using factory rims, you may not be able to run 33's because you will have serious frame rubbing due to the backspacing. The factory backspacing is (i believe) 5.5". My rims have a backspacing of 4.5" which pushes the tire away from the frame by 1" (which helps with any frame rubbing that might happen). I hope this helps.

Message: Just another point to add to what Brian said. They also sell 33x10.5 tires. I know BFG AT KO's come in that size. And with those, you may be able to keep the stock wheels and not have as much rubbing or trimming to deal with, as they are 2" narrower than the popular 33x12.5's. Just another option for ya!!

Message: Thanx all!! I think that I will take Brian's advice. I'am replacing my stock rims with the American Racing " Python rims, 16x8. Rims are quite limited for the dodge because of the lug bolt pattern. The Pythons looked the best. Jim aka XtremeX
